Restoran Kapitan • Queesnsbay — Restaurant in George Town

This warning is from a foreigner to other foreigners. This is the first time I will leave a 1-star review on Google, so don't take it lightly

I went there based on recommendation that it's the best place to get Nasi Kandar in Georgetown. I went there around 3pm. Service was super slow. I got one piece of chicken with multiple sea food options (prawns, squid, squid egg).

The sea food had gone bad because it was lying there since morning without being heated. I thought that my tongue was playing games with me, but when I but into one of the prawns, it was rotten and sour. The sour taste also impacted the curry. After complaining that the food was cold and bad, they went to microwave it. But it was still bad. I couldn't even eat the rice because the sour seafood curry was all over it

I ended up eating only the chicken and paying 62 MYR for this horrible experience. I realized I messed up when I noticed every other local th re was getting roti and tandoori chicken (which needs to be made fresh). No one else got Nasi Kandar when I was there. When I went to pay, I peered into the curry vats, and noticed foam on top... Clear sign of significant bacteria activity.

In summary, stay away from the place as it is a clear health hazard. Nasi Kandar is a buffet, and buffet needs to be kept warm especially if it is seafood. These guys don't care at all and they want to keep charging a premium for...

In my opinion, Kapitan serves the best Tandoori chicken in whole of Penang and this has been the case for as long as I can remember, maybe 10 or 15 years ago until today.

The chicken is very moist and juicy and I simply love the tandoori marinate applied to the chicken. And usually I will order garlic cheese naan to complement the tandoori chicken.

The other food worth trying is the claypot briyani whether it is chicken or mutton, they are good as well. The mix rice aka nasi kandar is not too bad but I think if you really want Nasi Kandar you can get it from other more famous ones. I won't come to Kapitan for nasi kandar though.

Price has definitely increase over the years and in fact I find the chicken portion getting smaller too. What to do, price seems to be going up every where and Kapitan is no exception.

One of the worst restaurant I've ever been. Actually, we went here because it was the only 24hours restaurant in walking distance from the Queensbay Mall. Because we went there by bus, and just wanna have light breakfast, so we decided to go to any normal restaurant, outside the mall. And pffffftt, it was the worst choice ever. As it was just a light breakfast, we just ordered roti canai and hot Milo. And waited and waited ... Even when there's very less people at that time. And we had it. Ugh, that roti canai, not very good and the curry was tasteless. Seriously, tasteless. Felt like was just eating the roti. Milo was sweet AF. I added water several times.
