We used to like coming here for sushi. It has been some time since we last came, and this time's visit is utterly disappointing. We came around 6.30pm to 7pm, and the sushi choices on the conveyor were very limited, albeit 7pm is dinner peak time and it was full house. You have to place a paper order to get the kitchen to prepare sushis which aren't available on the conveyor, as I understand from the staff that it's to prevent wastage.
My usual order will include their miso soup. In past visits, the soup was always served hot and would retain its heat even after some time. Today's was just slightly above lukewarm temperature and turned cold faster, completely losing the usual heartiness.
The Tori Teriyaki Don I ordered today (first-time try as we usually would eat more sushis) was another letdown. Hardly could taste the teriyaki sauce, and the rice was not hot. The same goes for the Tori Katsu Curry Rice my husband ordered. I recall the curry rice used to be good. Overall, it felt like the standard had dropped, and the Don's felt kinda like microwave heat rather than cooked and served hot (they came out having steam but it's as though surface heat rather than having the internal temperature).
It does seem confusing as the recent Google reviews are mainly positive but I just experienced otherwise. Maybe we came at the wrong time and ordered the wrong food, or maybe quality has become...
Read moreComparing to others outlet, it is nicely setup, more spacious and good atmosphere. When come to Sushi, it always my choice of place to dine with. Quite many variety of side-order besides sushi is available on the menu. Sashimi, grill salmon, Saba Shioyaki (grill Mackerel), Agedashi Tofu, Asari Miso Soup (clam), Temaki Sushi (hand Roll) with Unagi/Salmon/Soft-shell crab. Kids always love the Kaiten Sushi which travel on the conveyor belt. Averagely 8-10 plates on each visit. Needless to say the free flow Wasabi & must emphasized on the nice ginger where kids surprisingly also love that so much. Last but not least, the price is much more affordable and worth for money to bring the family for a exquisite Japanese meal. Thanks to Sushi Mentai for their...
Read moreEdit 2025. Finally their food quality has dropped significantly (maybe due to public holiday Hari Raya ?) Salmon sashimi was limped, salmon rice had normal salmon orangy color but completely bland, the most flat tasting Salmon ever. Curry rice which if you know Japanese version can be quite fragrantly pleasing, wow even this disappoint big time (or my taste buds had some issues???). It's done here in 2025.....
Food quality did not suffer although portion is reduced for possibly the cheapest Japanese restaurant in Penang, ambient is just like big Japanese sushi restaurants, so it's worth the price and wait. After so 4 or 5 years, there are still people queuing outside waiting for a table especially during weekends. Again expect downsized portions and you...
