老新山 国泰肉骨茶 ECO 店 — Restaurant in Iskandar Puteri

On July 12, 2024, at 6:35 pm, we were dining at Hoa La Sup Mala located in Eco Botanic. There was only one table customer dining besides us. My friend ordered the spicy hot pot. Initially, there was no transparency in weighing or pricing the hot pot. I ordered a plate of Kimchi fried rice. According to the menu, the price for this dish was RM18. However, when it came time to pay, the cashier simply scanned my touch & go without showing me the bill or informing me of the amount. It was only after receiving the receipt that I noticed the fried rice was charged at RM20 (while the menu stated RM18). I asked the cashier why there was a discrepancy between the menu and the receipt. The cashier replied rudely, stating they didn't have time to update it and showed no apology whatsoever. I proceeded to take a picture of the menu showing the price. The cashier then asked what the problem was in a very confrontational manner. Their attitude and demeanor were extremely disrespectful. Place: an air-conditioned restaurant that specialises in bak kut teh, and some side dishes.

Service: perhaps the staff are new, they got our drink orders wrong. The staff were very friendly, but not helpful. We specifically mentioned to the staff (the Chinese speaking owners) that we wanted lean pork meat, and they were too rigid and we had to only order from the menu (fixed selection of pork parts, i.e. tendon, soft bone, t-bone, etc) all parts available EXCEPT lean meat! Which was really frustrating to me.

Food: BKT: the broth itself was light and doesn’t pack a punch. But still palatable for daily consumption. But not my go to place for BKT. Felt that the taste profile was left wanting. I didnt enjoy my meal today....

This is my 2nd visit and I am sure I will keep coming back. I have tried Mala Xiangguo and Mala Tang, both are really delicious without being too salty and oily, lots of ingredients to choose from and I can feel they are fresh. The price is quite reasonable as well. Even though the shop isn’t very noticeable and doesn’t look inviting from the outside, but it is very clean and make me want to stay long. They have many things on the menu as well, I would love to try more...
