Jiah Xiang Dim Sum, Horizon Hills
Wow, another discovery!
So Jiah Xiang has 3 outlets in Johor, one of them at Horizon Hills, near West Entrance!
Location: No7, Jalan Horizon Perdana 4, Horizon hill, 79100 Gelang Patah, Johor Darul Ta'zim, Malaysia
The food was quite decent, certainly better than the other Horizon Hills Dim Sum place I covered a few months ago!
1st : Xia Long Bao Not that great, but also not too bad, skin wrinkly, not enough stock inside, but flavor quite ok! Not hot enough! 5 out of 10
2nd: Siew Mei The classic crystal shrimp dumpling, can rarely go wrong! Taste & texture good , quality decent! 8 out of 10
3rd Fried Meat Dumplings Oil for frying didn’t look to fresh, but taste wise still ok Flavour of the filling excellent, 7 out of 10
Next Visit Update:
4th Fried Carrot Cake (2nd time I have this) today they got it right, must ask for dark, fried, somewhat dry & spicy, if that’s your thing, then almost perfect 9 out of 10
5th: Chee Cheong Fan Super delightful Rice Noodles, with Shrimps, perfectly cooked, the sauce a bit on the sweet side, but once adding the dry Chili Sauce it’s very decent 8 out of 10
(2nd Visit, 3 weeks ago)
6th: Har Gau The dumplings were a little on the hard side, but still decent 6 out of 10
7th: Fried Dumplings Decent, crispy on the outside, filling a bit lacking of flavor, but still worth it 7 out of 10
8th: Siu Mei Another Classic, tad hard, but flavourful decent 7 out of 10
We also did a bunch of take always, want a noodle dry with Char Siu, Jiah Xiang Big Pau, (excellent), Lo Mai Gai, also super, so overall quite happy
If you are around Horizon Hills, need a Carwash, (right next door) and want to have breakfast or lunch while you wait, it’s truly an excellent choice
Service is good, a few speak English! Of course Mandarin is better, but they care, look after you, always have a smile! So since a few month (our old Carwash closed down) this place has become our area’s favorite
Even if not combined with the Carwash it’s still very much worth going!
Their Dim Sum stops at Noon but their noodle menu definitely worth checking out!

Read moreWas dining there first time with the total of 5 friends, as thru one of our friends recommendations, tim sum dishes were served piping hot, but regret to say their A) Shang Hai Xiao Long Bao needs to improve as the skin dough was very dry n the sauce accompanied with limited shredded ginger to go along. Need to request extra sauce Probably the dishes had been steam too long B) Lo Mai Gai rice was over cook, l think it was steam too long too C) Deep fried carrot cake too oily despite sitting on our table for more than 30 minutes, yet u can still see oily on the surface, this dish needed to be drain first before serving. D) POT of Xiang Pian tea leaves was NOT PORTION added n filled at, in result after 2nd topping of piping hot water, we found it was diluted n tasteless to drink at. Service crew were very pleased, politely n helpful, but regret to say we needed to be patience n listening to their communication as they all don't speak basic English, Chinese but only basic Malay n lots of pointing menu were interactions with. If we are hungry just dine to our belly full. The restaurant, itself were simply decorated, need to try their home made chilli sauce, the restaurant claimed it was dammed good as compared to other places as it had its taste, spicy n just nice to go with other...
Read moreCame for a dimsum breakfast. The place is clean with easy parking right outside. Lots of space too. Food was just average hence 3 stars. Ordered a bunch of stuff for 2 pax and ended up spending 60+rm. Items range from 4.40rm to 7.5rm, mostly under the 6.80rm range.
There's a bunch of selections from the menu you can order with the paper. Staff will also go from table to table with more steam or fried dimsum and you can pick off selections from there. Pay at the end.
Overall, food was on the saltier and sweeter side. It's OK for a casual meal but wouldn't recommend if you are looking for GOOD dimsum.
Xiaolongbao - broth was quite nice and skin was OK. Slightly thick at the top Fried carrot cake - one of the better dishes imo. Slightly spicy so may not be suitable for kids Liushabao - looks deflated when we got it but it was OK. The bao was abit dense Siew mai - pretty good. Solid pieces of prawn at the top and generous sizes. Just a little salty Hargao - average Beancurd shrimp - average Chee cheong fan - the skin was actually quite good, silky soft and thin. We got the Charshao but it was more like a minced meat. Quite strange. Probably better off with shrimp Egg tart - skip it. Custard part tastes a little artificial and sweet Teh-...
