Worse hai di lao outlet ever eaten, I'm a big fan of hai di lao which I have gone many numerous occasions locally or globally and for JB itself I have gone to the other 2 outlets frequently. First this outlet dish selection is way lesser than the rest of the outlets. Took 15mins just for our food to arrive when the restaurant is definite not full or crowded like the other outlets, we almost already filled our stomach eating the small side dishes. 2nd the place is stuffy, the aircon is not even any slightly cooling at all. 3rd not like other outlets, the waiter will come to serve welcoming and also giving good services such as helping you drain the meat residue from the soup, making special sauces etc....(those who frequent hai di lao will know what I mean) in fact when my friend ask kindly for their prawn paste combination sauce, the waiter forget it and then again took another 5mins after reminding him. 4th, most hai di lao would like get takeaway a small container of the side dishes etc but this outlet strictly doesn't let u too. The manager told us the small side dishes are strictly not able to takeaway. 5th, the manager is kinda rude and sarcastic as well when we kindly ask if could takeaway 2 small containers of the side dishes as we always did so in other outlets which we are able to. When we sit down settled down, started ordering etc, another staff wanted to upheave us, they told us they wanna shift us to another place cus they had a table of 10 coming in and would need us to "give up" our seat, after we settled down and started ordering. Which is so unprecedented.
Food was absolutely trash, the fish and prawn paste had been defrosted inappropriately causing it to be watery and powdery, we ordered a fried pork filet slice, and the amount they gave us was smaller in portions than the oil absorbent paper and the staff could tell us, oh its by weight this is a normal portion. U mean the normal portion u give SMALLER than your oil absorbent paper??????
Lastly, we were halfway eating, and staff started giving us mint and toothpick asking us what icecream we wanted when we werent even done w our food.

I had made a reservation but arrived more than 20 minutes late. The reception staff, without even checking, told me in a robotic way that I had to wait 45 minutes. When I explained I had a reservation, he simply repeated himself—no effort to help, and his response lacked any emotional intelligence.
I later found the outlet manager, who quickly arranged a table for us. To our surprise, the restaurant wasn’t even full—it was Monday noon after all. This makes me believe HDL might be losing customers and profit margin simply because of a reception that turns people away unnecessarily. Many customers hearing “45 minutes” will just walk elsewhere.
Thankfully, our table was served by 巧恩, who was outstanding. She noticed what had happened, apologised on behalf of her colleague, and provided attentive service with a warm smile throughout our meal. Her professionalism and empathy truly reflect HDL’s usual service standards—she’s exactly the kind of staff member who deserves recognition or even a promotion.
I hope HDL reviews its front counter service at this outlet. First impressions matter, and staff like 巧恩 show how much of a difference good EQ and genuine care can make.
