Ah Koong Restaurant Ah Koong Restaurant 亚坤纯正西刀鱼丸 is a family-operated fishball noodles stall, founded in 1975 when it first opened its doors in Taman Sentosa (Johor Bahru). Since then, Ah Koong has expanded over the years and it has a restaurant chain with over 100 employees across 4 outlets in Malaysia. Ah Koong Restaurant has since established itself as a household name when it comes to authentic fishball noodles in Malaysia. Ah, Koong's signature Fishballs are; Made with 100% fish meat with no fillers using freshly caught Ikan Parang (Wolf-Herring Fish) and yellowtail fish with our original recipe since 1975, No added starch, hence giving their fishballs its unique bouncy texture with a delightful fragrance. No added preservatives & boric acid

Here is what I had; Set A; Fried Tau Kee (10 pieces - $5) Signature fishball ($5) Instant laksa Mee Hoon pkt ($2.30) Kampung Koh garlic chili sauce bottle ($7) Fish Roll packet ($4.50) Had a splendid meal with the famous Fishball noodles from @ahkoongnoodles, and what I enjoy is the bouncy and chewy texture of the fishball that makes it irresistible for me to just have only one at go.

The laksa Mee Hoon has a mixture of flavors from tangy, sour to a slightly sweet aftertaste. I decided to cook my mixture of fishball, fish roll in a hotpot style using the Laksa Mee Hoon, and I loved how the flavor was well absorbed in the ingredients.

However, I do have a preference for thicker and richer gravy. I Special mention to their garlic chili sauce, which added that extra kick to the fishball and fish roll! For those who can take spiciness, do give this a try because you will certainly be up for a challenge.

Ah Koong Restaurant in Johor Bahru (JB) is well-known for its fishball noodles and seafood dishes, attracting both locals and tourist alike.

1.Ambiance: The restaurant has a casual and unpretentious setting, typical of many local eateries in JB. It can get quite busy, especially during peak hours, so expect a lively and bustling atmosphere. The decor is simple, with a focus on practicality over style.

2.Food: Fishball Noodles: The fishballs here are often praised for their freshness and bounciness. Made from fresh fish, they have a clean taste and are often served with springy noodles in a clear, flavorful broth. Seafood: Besides the fishball noodles, Ah Koong also offers a variety of seafood dishes. The freshness of the seafood is a highlight, with dishes like fried fish cakes, seafood porridge, and various stir-fried seafood options being popular. Variety: The menu is extensive, offering a wide range of Chinese-style dishes, including vegetables, meats, and seafood, catering to different preferences.

3.Service: Service at Ah Koong is generally efficient, though it can sometimes be a bit rushed during busy times. The staff is accustomed to a steady flow of customers, so orders are typically taken and served quickly.

4.Price: Prices are reasonable for the quality and portion sizes. It's a good value for those looking for fresh seafood and authentic local cuisine.

5.Overall: Ah Koong Restaurant is a solid choice for anyone looking to enjoy authentic fishball noodles and fresh seafood in JB. Its long-standing reputation speaks to the consistent quality of the food, though the bustling environment may not be ideal for those seeking a quiet...

The meal, unfortunately, really did not live up to my expectations. The soup was completely bland and lacked any depth of flavor, leaving it tasteless and disappointing. While the fish noodles themselves were decent and well-prepared, the fish cake and prawn cake offered little to distinguish themselves from ordinary / usual precessed food, tasting rather mediocre and lacking the freshness or quality that could make them stand out from others. Overall, the meal was underwhelming, especially when considering the price. Given the premium charged, I highlight expecting a more flavorful and satisfying dining experience.

On a positive note, the environment was inviting, with a well-thought-out decor that created a pleasant atmosphere. The service also deserves recognition; the waitstaff was attentive, professional, and readily available to assist at any moment. Their attentiveness made the experience feel more elevated and was a highlight of the visit.

In conclusion, while ambiance and service were commendable, taste remains subjective.

However, based on my personal experience, I found the overall meal lacking in flavor and not worth the cost paid. I would most likely not revisit this restaurant nor recommend it to friends, as it failed to meet my expectations in terms of quality and taste.

Really wish that the owner could make taste improvement on...
