I hope I'm reviewing the right outlet, as this restaurant has been a staple for almost 30 years, you can feel the nostalgia look and smell the moment you step inside. Here's my detailed breakdown of my experience:
đ˝ď¸ Taste: The food here is absolutely delicious and stands out among the three Chinese restaurants I visited during my trip to Genting. Every dish was bursting with flavor, fresh, and prepared perfectly. The clams were a highlightâsome of the freshest Iâve had, with a sweetness and no fishy aftertaste at all. The sambal kampong was another favorite, along with the beancurd, and their salt and pepper fried grills were spot on! I highly recommend trying these dishes.
đ˛ Price: While there are no prices displayed on the menu, which initially made me suspicious, I found the prices to be very reasonable once I asked the server for specifics. If you compare it to Singapore, dish for dish, itâs affordable, and you wonât feel like youâre overpaying. Our bill for 9 adults and 1 child, with around 7-9 dishes, came to about RM500+, which I found to be good value for the quality of food.
âď¸ Service: The staff were polite, attentive, and quick to respond to our requests. Though the lack of menu prices might be off-putting at first, the servers are happy to clarify and provide details for each dish.
đ´ Ambience: The restaurant has an old-school, traditional Chinese vibe, which I appreciated. Itâs spacious and feels authentic, though itâs worth noting that despite being indoors, I did notice a few houseflies during the meal. It didnât detract too much from the overall experience, but itâs something to be aware of.
đ¤ Overall Experience: This is a must-visit if youâre looking for a nostalgic, classic Chinese dining experience with great food at reasonable prices. Just be sure to ask about prices beforehand if youâre concerned, and youâll enjoy a fantastic meal in a setting that feels like stepping...
Read moreWe went to Restaurant Pekin which is located next to Sutera Mall, Johor. I would categorise this place as low standard in terms of atmosphere, service and food quality. The price is absolutely not worth of eating here. In fact, some coffee shop cook better than this place.
We went there last Friday for dinner. A waiter showed us a table for 4, which is sheltered outdoor. The temperature was initially fine, so we didn't mind to sit there before that area got warmer. When the food were served on our table, there were at least 3 flies flew around the dishes and refused to leave. It also crawled on the food. We talked to the waiters and waitress about the flies but they didn't do anything about it.
We ordered 4 dishes; sambal kangkong, wasabi Prawn, half Peking duck and mango chicken. I am surprised when I read some of the positive reviews about this restaurant. It was weird to eat the entire duck meat and duck skin in the egg crepe roll! It's completely normal roasted duck wrapped with pancake! We got cheated with name printed on the menu as "peking duck". Try peking duck from other restaurants, for instance Tung Lok restaurant's peking duck and you know what I meant. Wasabi prawn doesn't have wasabi taste, The green sauce that only partially coated on the prawn, was not coated well, melt and stained on the plate. The prawn was not even crispy but slightly soggy. We have banned this restaurant and won't come back to...
Read moreRestoran Pekin is a renowned dining destination with a long-standing history in Johor Bahruâs food and beverage scene. It is a popular venue for Chinese wedding banquets and birthday celebrations. The original restaurant is in Taman Sentosa. In view of its popularity, it had since expanded to a total of five branches across Johor Bahru. As this is my first visit to Restoran Pekin, I decided to patronise the outlet nearest to Johor Bahru City Centre, which is in Taman Sentosa. I had made a reservation online for lunch on a Sunday. The restaurant was fairly packed upon my arrival.
Restoran Pekin offers a wide variety of Chinese delicacies such as poultry, seafood, vegetables, soups, rice and noodles. For lunch, I had ordered the following items for three diners:
Half Crispy Duck - RM38 Two Taste Kailan - RM25 Parsley Beancurd (4 pieces) - RM12 Fried Noodle - RM15 Kombucha (Two bottles) - RM37.60 Appetiser - RM3.50 Tea - RM7 Towel for three - RM1.80
The total cost of the meal inclusive of tax is RM148.30.
Restoran Pekin uses ingredients which are fresh and of good quality. I like that the environment is comfortable and familiar like a traditional local Chinese restaurant. The service is earnest and sincere. The pricing is also competitive, which I am impressed there is no service fee. Restoran Pekin is one old-school restaurant which you can rely upon whenever you crave for Chinese food in...
