Decided to visit this place because I was interested in the laksa pasta. Finally got a chance to visit, not a long walk from KSL less than a kilometer away easy walk on a not hot day. Visited on a Sunday afternoon and there were quite a number of people but we were lucky there was an empty table and we could sit down immediately. Had a look at the menu, quite a lot of things on the menu to order. Was fixated on the laksa pasta I didn't think of anything else and my friend decided to get a rice dish so we could share two different mains. Ordered 2 drinks, matcha latte and pineapple peach sode. Both drinks were not too bad. Then came the mains. First tried the salmon don and it was not bad. Quite flavourful and portion size was actually quite decent even for 2 to share. Really more rice than average. The laksa pasta came and the dish also looked rather big. Quite a bit of seafood in the dish as well. Had a try and initially it tasted quite off, totally not laksa but didn't know how to describe it. Then the more we taste we felt it tasted just like normal curry and then it suddenly thickened and tasted quite like satay gravy. Disappointed that it didn't live up to its name. Then also ordered a dessert. There was a berries pancake but I thought it might be better to get a berries French toast instead. Turned out it was a good choice because the French toast was very well executed. It tasted quite eggy which we liked but may not be for everyone. I was quite turned off by the fact of the berry sauce but it exceeded my expectations and it turned out not bad, which I initially suspected it wouldn't be a good combination. The staff came to us and told us initially before the dessert was served saying they had no more ice cream if we still wanted it they could lower the price of the dish, then 5 minutes later came back and said they have the ice cream now and whether we still wanted the dessert. Price? Quite expensive for Malaysian standards and even I could feel a bit of the pinch. Everything was okay except...
Read moreTried Jiran Café in Johor Bahru for the first time and it definitely lived up to the hype. I’ll admit I was a little apprehensive at first, thinking it might be overhyped given all the buzz around it, but it turned out to be genuinely good — both the food and the ambience impressed me.
The portions are generous, making every dish feel satisfying and worth the price. Speaking of pricing, it’s really reasonable for the quality and serving sizes you get, which makes dining here even more enjoyable.
The food itself was delicious. From hearty pastas and rice bowls to snacks and fried bites, everything we ordered was well-prepared and flavourful. The poke-inspired rice bowl was fresh and colourful with a great balance of toppings, the fried chicken was crispy and coated in a tangy-spicy sauce, and the sides like fish fingers were crunchy and comforting. Every plate looked inviting and tasted just as good as it looked.
The ambience is another highlight. The café has a modern yet cosy vibe that makes it perfect for both casual hangouts with friends and family meals. It’s spacious enough to feel comfortable, and the atmosphere has that mix of trendy café energy and relaxed dining that makes you want to linger a little longer.
👉 Overall, Jiran Café is a spot I’ll be happy to return to again. Great food, generous portions, affordable prices, and an inviting atmosphere — it really checks all the boxes. Highly recommended if you’re in Johor Bahru and looking for a place that’s...
Read moreI recently had the pleasure of visiting this cozy spot for brunch, and I can confidently say it was an unforgettable experience. From the moment I walked in, the atmosphere was warm and inviting, making it the perfect setting for a relaxed meal with friends or family.
The decor was charming yet simple, creating an effortlessly cozy vibe. The friendly staff ensured we felt right at home from the start. The menu offered a great variety, with something for everyone—whether you’re craving hearty classics or looking for lighter, contemporary options. I opted for the mushroom toast salad with tomato soup and two slices of bread, paired with a cup of smooth coffee. It was the perfect choice. The mushrooms were perfectly sautéed, rich in flavor, and served on a thick slice of toasted sourdough.
The salad was fresh and light, adding a crisp contrast to the richness of the mushrooms. Paired with the coffee, it made for an ideal brunch combination. But what truly set this place apart was the ambiance. It’s one of those spots where you can easily settle in for long, leisurely conversations with friends or family, savoring both the food and the company. Whether you’re in the mood for a casual bite or a more indulgent brunch, this place delivers on all fronts. Overall,
it’s a spot I’ll definitely be coming back to. Highly...
