Came on a Monday morning and we were quite disappointed at the food served despite all the good reviews here. We ordered the brekkie and shakshuka and found quite a lot of processed food.
For one you can taste the canned tomatoes in the shakshuka which wasnt too bad, but cafe could consider using fresh tomatoes and herbs. The taste is fairly generic, not outstanding, but it’ll do if you’re hungry.
The brekkie however had very salty processed meats with (again) canned baked beans, did not bother finishing that. Another surprising bit was these huge chunks of what i thought was sweet potato, turned out to be a whole darn carrot. Fun fact, there’s a piece of lettuce under all that food, not sure what the purpose of that is, it basically wilted by the time I got to it. Didnt bother with that meager piece of leaf that pretended to be a salad, if that was the intention. Im guessing at this point, major confusion here.
Cafe might want to consider revising their brekkie meal. I strongly recommend against trying it, unless high blood pressure and heart disease is your calling. In which case, good luck to you dear reader.
The bread accompanying the meals and the drinks are good which is what the stars are for. We got a piccolo and green tea latte. Desserts were basically sold out, so we couldnt try the highly recommended tiramisu, only thing left was the dutch baby pancake which didn’t look or sound appealing enough to try.
Probably would only come here for a lazy afternoon for tea/coffee which really, is not a good enough reason to come again. Not until they revise their food menu.
P.s. Salmon and bagels were off the table, sold out. Maybe it would be better to come on a day where they had their items in stock. I recommend against coming during low...

The Good:
• The Atmosphere: From the moment I stepped inside, I was captivated by the warm and inviting, elegant, and cozy atmosphere.
• The Food: I opted for the Shakshuka with Sourdough Focaccia and the Piccolo with Oat Milk, Donkey ordered the Brekkie with Buttered Sourdough for the drink he went for Orange Shakerato and each dish was a true masterpiece. The Shakshuka tasted like minestrone soup and goes well with Sourdough Focaccia. The Brekkie was bursting with flavor, beautifully presented. It also came with a choice of sourdough, hence we chose Buttered Sourdough. Donkey even asked for butter to go with the sourdough. The Orange Shakerato, an Espresso with Orange Peel & Honey, had a delightful orange taste. The Piccolo coffee tasted great too.
• The Service: The service was impeccable, with the staff being friendly and helpful.
The Quirks:
• Nothing really stood out as a “quirk” in this review.
Donkey’s Note: I loved the Brekkie! The scrambled eggs were so good, and I loved the sourdough.

Review:
Tucked away in the vicinity of Danga Bay in Johor Bharu, you'll find a hidden gem known as "The Lightwood by MUSES". Specializing in café-style cuisine, this charming spot is the perfect destination for breakfast and brunch enthusiasts. Although its location might be a bit challenging for first-time visitors, rest assured that a quick search on Waze or Google Maps will lead you straight to this uniquely decorated café.
The Lightwood by MUSES boasts a cozy, home-like atmosphere, accentuated by an abundance of natural elements in its décor. The space is bright and well-ventilated, with plenty of natural light streaming in, creating an inviting ambiance that makes you feel right at home.
The service here is commendable. The staff is welcoming, engaging in pleasant conversations that add a personal touch to the dining experience.
For my breakfast, I opted for the Shakshuka with Sourdough Focaccia, a dish popular in Israel and the Middle East. The portion was just right, and the sourdough focaccia complemented the Shakshuka well. The coffee, too, was well-blended and acceptable.
When it comes to pricing, it's pretty standard for a café of this nature. While it's not particularly cheap, it's fair considering the quality of food and the ambiance. The Shakshuka, although flavorful, could benefit from a bit more depth. Perhaps the addition of potatoes and salad could enhance its presentation and make it even more satisfying.
In conclusion, despite a few minor areas for improvement, The Lightwood by MUSES offers a delightful dining experience in a cozy setting. I look forward to returning and trying out more of their...
