I stumbled upon this place as it showed up in my search for recommended roasted duck in town. I liked how the restaurant offered a neat and comfortable dine in setting with air-conditioning. I ordered a bowl of dry noodles with siew yoke and topped up a plate of lower half roasted duck. I felt that the serving speed can be improved here as it took a little longer than I'd expected. The noodles were springy in texture and the taste was light. The minced meat paired well with the noodles and it came with a generous amount of pork lard cubes/ chu yao zhar. The siew yoke was decent with some nice crispy skin and the meat was not overly dry. Overall this was a nice but a rather average bowl of noodles. The personally felt that the aroma of the noodles can be improved here. The roasted duck looked promising with its glistening skin and I'm pleased to say that some of the skin retained some crispiness. The meat was moist but I felt that the seasoning and sauce could have been better with more herbal presence and more sweetness to balance that sharp saltiness. If you like plenty of fats with your roasted duck, then the version here will check that box. The chilli sauce helped to provide that nice tang and sweetness to your dishes. In my opinion, the roasted duck here turned out to be decent in taste...
Read moreMy favourite roast duck place just got an upgrade! The outlet in Taman Kinrara is quite simple and perhaps not the most comfortable place to dine in. Here, they took over Bacon and Balls Courtyard, which was a pretty iconic restaurant in Happy Garden, retaining most of its decor.
The menu here is pretty extensive compared to the first outlet, with pretty unique dishes like duck burger patties.
Apart from the duck, I thought the char siew was pretty good, the fatty type. Siew yok was okok la, not the best but decent. Chilli oil was a nice touch, noodles was not bad.
Quite crowded during my visit today. A bit cramped due to the previous owner's layout of the restaurant. Would be great if the noodle and rice dishes had the option to add on other meats. For now, it's only single options, and the a la carte portions...
Read moreFor the rice, you can only order one variety, with no option to mix. I asked the waitress if I could add some char siew on top of my duck rice, but was told I have to order at least half a portion (around RM15). This didn’t make sense since a char siew rice for one person is RM12. She insisted the portion would be too small otherwise, but I just wanted a single meal (Duck + Char Siew Rice).
I didn’t push further due to the language barrier and ended up ordering a duck rice plus half a plate of char siew. The bill came to RM35+ with water for one person, which didn’t feel justifiable. The owner should consider offering a simple “add-on” option instead of forcing half portions.
Food was average. The ambience was...
