First of all, everyone need to be aware that there will be RM5 additional charges for their plate/utensils (compulsory), and another RM5 for their sauces & unlimited refill of desserts if you desire. This seems to be a culture in China style restaurants.
Sauces wise, the board at the sauce section provide some mixing guides and good to add some flavoring into the food but frankly there's nothing too special. I was expecting some mala sauce but there isn't any. The only special sauce is the pork meat & mushroom sauce which is good to eat with rice.
We ordered chicken soup and tomato soup which are flavorful but nothing to wow about it.
Staffs & services are superb even during peak dinner hour. The waitresses remind us to be careful of the soup stain on our clothes while eating, and would ask if we need any desserts. At the other table, a lady in white shirt was provided an apron to prevent the soup stains. Decoration is really grand too and the environment is really good to have Chinese style hotpot except it's pretty hot when we sit at the outer section. Better to pick the inner section if possible.
Desserts are quite a let down other than the appearance. In clockwise: 1) some pudding with fruits & sago, a little sweet but mostly tasteless. 2) Brownie tasted alright. 3) The outer layer tasted like some puff and the inner part consist of cookie & cream which is not creamy and not sweet. 4) Cream tarts that are quite creamy but has no taste. 5) Mochi with peanut filling, taste ok. 6 & 7) Fruits but tasteless. 8) Some type of kuih like angkuh with sweet filling. In the middle would be guilinggao but it's also tasteless. In short, I wouldn't recommend to pay extra for the sauces & desserts unless you couldn't eat without sauce.
Each plate of meat & other dish in the menu are pretty costly and comes in small amount. To have a full dinner for two the damage would be RM180+. The fullness is actually from the deep fried mantou, otherwise we won't be full enough. I would prefer Sukishi, Sukiya or other buffet style place that cost less than RM100 with similar or better quality and able to eat with...
Read moreI had made a reservation for 8:30 PM at a hotpot restaurant yesterday.
At 8:14 PM, I received a call from the restaurant. As soon as I answered, the staff member immediately asked, "Are you canceling your booking?" I was confused since I never called to cancel, so I replied, "No, we're already in the mall."
The staff girl misunderstood and thought I meant we were already inside the restaurant. She didn’t mention whether our table was ready or explain the purpose of her call. Instead, she even asked which branch I had booked at—which was strange since she was the one who called me.
When we arrived at the restaurant, I gave the hostess my name and reservation time. I noticed that my name had already been crossed off their list. I pointed at the paper and asked, "Does this crossed-out mark mean our reservation is canceled?"
The girl responded, "I just called to confirm with you—didn’t you say you were already inside?" Before I could reply, she turned to the manager standing next to her and said, "Wow, did I just see a ghost or something?"
At that point, I wasn’t even going to say anything, but after hearing that remark—OK, now we have a problem.
I immediately addressed the manager: "Your staff’s phone call was unclear. My reservation was for 8:30 PM, but your employee opened by asking if I was canceling, without explaining why she was calling." "If the table was ready, shouldn’t she have asked whether we still wanted to keep it? Or at least confirmed how long we’d take to arrive?"
The manager didn’t acknowledge any fault in their staff’s behavior—not even a...
Read moreContext: We sat at the back of the restaurant within the air conditioning area. It was a large family gathering.
Food: We ordered pork belly slices, fresh beef and Australian beef and some veggies. All of them were very fresh and they weren't cut too thin as well. The portion sizes were large as well. Overall very satisfied with the meal.
Service: Very good service, the waiters and waitresses were very friendly, very attentive and helpful. One waiter even offered to help us put in the shrimp paste. They speak Chinese but can understand English as well. They will try to answer and help to the best of the questions asked.
Atmosphere: I personally really liked their decorations and their hanging lights design were all well made. It was neither too bright nor too dim. Unfortunately, we sat beneath the speakers so the songs that were playing were very loud.
Price: It's expensive if you order plenty of meat and no carbohydrates (noodles/rice) which is what we did totalled RM1,234. ~RM95 for each person (13pax)
Cons: The toilets are terrible, there's only two stalls, one male toilet and one female toilet. The rubbish bin is positioned in front of the sink so that you have to lean over a bit to wash your hands.
Pros: Free desserts (plenty of wobbly jelly, the jelly bunny was enticingly cute) and a large variety of free sauces/toppings to choose from. They also provided free aprons so that you don't have to worry about staining your shirts/pants...
