Situated on the first floor of the northern wing of the Gardens Mall, this restaurant takes up a quiet alcove with seats scattered out to the mall. It's always calm here as it's never actually full.
Food here is decent, not fantastic but not horrible. Tried the chicken & mushroom pie and it was good enough, with generous chunks of chicken in a creamy white sauce accompanied by french fries and a simple lettuce salad.
My main gripe here is the price. I struggle to understand the justification for charging about RM30 for a dish which, although palatable, tasted similar to what you could get at any deli store for half the price. The tea ordered came in a nice pot, somehow cost RM16 each. Unless the tea had been grown in mystical organic fields and each leaf had been handpicked by fairy nymph, the price doesn't seem justified.
Maybe my palate isn't refined enough to taste the quality of the food and beverages I had. Maybe the chicken pie I had which came out way too quickly for it to be freshly baked hadn't been made of frozen pre-made puff pastry. But I certainly left questioning why I had paid triple for a meal that left me neither full nor satisfied.
The reason why I am still giving this 4 stars is the service. Our waiter that day was alert, courteous and friendly. Despite having to man such a wide area, he still noticed when I waved to take our orders or when I called for the bill. The environment too is very conducive for conversation, since the restaurant only got half full during the peak lunch rush. Tables are spaced a comfortable enough distance so you aren't intruded by the conversations from other tables.
So do come here if you're looking for someplace quiet where you want to have an private conversation or conduct a business lunch. I definitely won't come here if I was looking for a particularly hearty satisfying meal, but won't mind returning if I'm having another get together...
Read moreLocated in The Gardens Mall, Alexis Bistro is a busy, happening restaurant—you can certainly feel it no matter what time you get here.
The reputation of Alexis' bistro experiences precedes itself, especially the cakes. The tiramisu was delectable: soft sponge, crunchy almond and caramel top, playful cream filling. My issue with the cake is that it's sweetness is overpowering. I cannot at all taste the coffee syrup.
Besides its dessert, there are other draws such as the pan fried Barramundi. It took approximately 25-30 minutes to arrive, which is an eternity for a hungry diner. But the meal was very satisfying. The spinach, potato medley, lemon butter sauce, and capers played very well. Complementing the fish, which was perfectly seared on the skin, and completely fragile and delicate in the flesh. The one thing that could be improved however, is presentation. The entire dish is awash with yellows and browns, and makes for quite an unappetizing appearance. It was no problem for a hungry, solo diner, but probably not a great look for a date or business lunch.
Overall, I enjoyed my experience at Alexis and will be back for more. Alexis still has a small ways to go before before my recommendation can be made with confidence.
The staff are very attentive and kept my table clean, which I appreciate.
One more note for improvement however, the seat cushions are both stained and lumpy, making for a very uncomfortable seating position. I would be ashamed to seat anyone I respect here. Please launder the cushion covers and change...
Read moreI had the great pleasure if dining in at Alexis Bistro with my family tonight. This would be my second time here, the first being a few days ago whilst stumbling around The Gardens Mall looking for a bite to eat. The first time I ordered the Chicken Rice with a recommendation from a friend, I was not disappointed. The rice was fragrant and perfectly seasoned along with perfectly cooked Hainanese style chicken. I was so impressed by the dish along with the impeccable service by the waiters, I simply had to go back again. I promptly booked a table for my family to go the next time. Which brings us to tonight. Service again was second to none and we had Marlo to thank for. His attention to us and our requests were always polite, informative. Combined with his warm and inviting personality we felt very spoilt. The menu at Alexis is a combination of both western and Asian dishes which suited my guests palate. 2 ordered Asian dishes and another 2 ordered western dishes. All dishes were warm, tasty and full of flavor. Overall it was a fantastic meal combined with excellent service. I highly recommend their Tiramisu cake which I hear is the most popular dessert there. Basically as layered sponge cake with all the flavors and texture of Tiramisu but with their signature caramalised nuts coating the cake. A must try for all. People tend to share due to the size of the slice but I dare say it's worth the calories to have a slice to...
