A Taste of Borneo in the Heart of Kuala Lumpur
Nestled conveniently near Bukit Bintang, just a stone's throw away from KLCC and a short walk from TRX, Boi Boi restaurant offers a delightful escape into the flavors of Borneo right in the bustling heart of Kuala Lumpur. My recent visit to this gem of a restaurant left me thoroughly impressed and eagerly anticipating my next visit.
Upon stepping into Boi Boi, I was immediately struck by the warm and inviting ambiance. The fusion of western coziness and Bornean charm creates an atmosphere that is both relaxed and vibrant. Soft music filled the air, setting the perfect backdrop for a leisurely dining experience.
My journey into Bornean cuisine began with their specialty, Kou Lou Mee. The dish was a revelation, boasting a perfect balance of flavors and textures that left my taste buds dancing with delight. Each bite was a harmonious blend of savory and aromatic goodness, a true testament to the culinary mastery of Boi Boi's kitchen.
Accompanying me on this culinary adventure was a friend who opted for the Sarawak Laksa. As someone who holds Sarawak Laksa close to my heart, I can attest that Boi Boi's rendition is nothing short of authentic. From the rich, fragrant broth to the generous servings of fresh ingredients, every aspect of the dish transported us to the streets of Sarawak.
Aside from the exquisite cuisine, what truly elevated my dining experience at Boi Boi was the impeccable service. The staff was not only attentive and professional but also exuded genuine warmth and hospitality. It was evident that they took pride in ensuring that every guest felt welcomed and well taken care of.
Adding to our delight was the gracious presence of the Boss, who took the time to engage with us and ensure that our dining experience surpassed expectations. It's rare to encounter such genuine hospitality in today's fast-paced world, and it further solidified my admiration for Boi Boi and its team.
To cap off our memorable meal, we were treated to a delightful surprise – UFO Tart. This delectable dessert, featuring layers of vanilla sponge cake, egg custard, and meringue, was the perfect conclusion to our culinary journey. It was a sweet reminder of the creativity and craftsmanship that defines Boi Boi's menu.
As we reluctantly bid farewell to Boi Boi, my friend and I couldn't help but make plans for our next visit. With its convenient location and exceptional offerings, it's the ideal destination for both casual gatherings and business meetings alike. And with ample parking right at the doorstep, there's no reason not to drop by and savor the flavors of Borneo at Boi Boi restaurant.
In conclusion, my experience at Boi Boi was nothing short of extraordinary. From the impeccable cuisine to the unparalleled hospitality, every aspect exceeded my expectations. I wholeheartedly recommend Boi Boi to anyone seeking an unforgettable dining experience in Kuala Lumpur. I, for one, cannot wait to return and indulge in their culinary...
Read moreNot your usual breakfast spot - each item though not unfamiliar to the local tastebuds, has certain distinct touch to it. Like the rice roll (swipe ), the sambal that accompanies it is uniquely Sabahan recipe (or so I was told). Overall, like no others, this place serves up comforting local delights done right - with a Borneo twist to them - in a cafe environment.
What we have tried:
Tuaran mee: noodles are decently chewy, not too dry or 'wet', evenly coated with eggs and adding to them is the extra flavor from the right amount of 'char'. This is uniquely Sabahan.
Sarawak laksa: toppings are generous and the broth, aside from the appetizing bold hue of red, is balanced in terms of the richness from the coconut milk and the flavor from the sambal and the fresh ingredients which the broth is made up of.
Rice roll: the texture is surprisingly soft while not lacking in bites, rather than 'clumpy' as what'd be normally expected from certain rice rolls from Sabah. Pairs excellently with the sambal that accompanies it.
Fried shrimp roll: skins remain crunchy and fresh even after a while. No sign of oily taste. Underneath the skin is again, prawn paste made up of recipe from 'home' - distinctively flavorful and a delightful side dish.
Fried carrot cake: crispy coatings, warm inside and doesn't need any sauce to go with as it is already packed with flavors.
Ma lai gou (Malay sponge cake): eggily fragrant and light, fluffy and spongy. Makes good conclusion with any milk based drink and can be dessert while not being cloyingly sweet. Great tea-time option.
Final remarks
Tuaran mee and the rice roll are my fav (not denigrating the others in any way). If your choices are limited, give these a go.

Read moreMy first time there I ordered their Nasi Lemak with Spiced Fried Chicken. The price is slightly above RM15. It may be pricy, but I'm quite pleased with the size of the chicken they served out. It has a good aroma and taste of spice on it. Hot & Crunchy. The sambal is quite okay, not too spicy with a tiny hint of sour to flavor up the coconut rice. Quite worth it and very fulfilling if you're looking for good amount of poultry protein.
Second time I visit again to try their Nasi Goreng Kampung / Village Fried Rice. This one is quite unique to me, as it brings forth the thought of simple fishing village life. Chef gets creative, by adding tiny dried shrimps along with anchovies to enrich the taste variety on its fried rice. The little balls you see are actually similar to fish flavored crackers (keropok ikan). Truly is a Kampung Fried Rice unlike the ones you eat at regular mamak and street stalls.
Atmosphere wise, the shop has a small dining area within it's premise, but the condo lounging area is allowed to be used as dining area as well for customers. Quite a peaceful...
