I recently had the opportunity to dine at Chef Wan's restaurant located in KL East Mall, and I must say, the experience was a mix of highs and lows. Let me start by reviewing their signature dish, the Soto Ayam.
The Soto Ayam at Chef Wan's was served piping hot with a fragrant aroma that made my mouth water with anticipation. However, upon my first taste, I found it to be rather average and not as extraordinary as I had hoped. The broth lacked a bit of depth, and while the chicken was tender, the overall flavor seemed to be missing that wow factor that I associate with exceptional Soto Ayam. Perhaps, the taste could have been improved with more robust spices and herbs to elevate the overall experience. Nevertheless, it was still a satisfying and hearty bowl of soup that provided comfort on a rainy day.
Moving on to the Fish & Chips, this dish turned out to be a delightful surprise. The crispy and golden-brown batter encasing the fish fillets was perfectly executed, creating a satisfying crunch with each bite. The fish itself was tender and flaky, showcasing freshness and quality. The portion of fries served alongside the fish was generous, making it a filling meal on its own. However, I couldn't help but notice the absence of chili sauce, which is a common accompaniment to fish & chips in many places. It would have been a nice addition to have a tangy chili sauce or tartar sauce served on the side to complement the dish further.
One thing I appreciated about the Fish & Chips was that it offered a departure from the usual local flavors and provided a taste of Western cuisine with a touch of finesse. It's a dish that can cater to various palates and is likely to please both adults and children.
The ambiance at Chef Wan's restaurant was warm and inviting, with attentive staff members ready to assist with any inquiries. Despite the average Soto Ayam, the quality of the Fish & Chips redeemed the overall dining experience. If you visit Chef Wan's at KL East Mall, I recommend giving the Fish & Chips a try, but perhaps you might want to explore other options if you're specifically craving an...

Read moreI brought my mother and sister here today (July 27th) for a small birthday celebration in honor of my mother's birthday. Everything went well at first; they brought us to our reserved table and took our orders within 5 minutes of sitting down.
We ordered a few items off the menu because there were just three of us; my mother is a cucur-udang fan, so we had that, another appetizer, laksa johor, and mee rebus in addition to the beverages.
We wanted to surprise my mother, so we requested that a cendol be given to the table with a birthday song (I asked if this was allowed before ordering, and the service answered sure).
Thirty minutes or more after the orders were taken, the two appetizers and drinks arrived. Since we were eager to try the meals, we devoured the appetizers and cleared the table thereafter while we waited patiently for the other two dishes to be served.
decided to ask the staff about it after waiting for an additional 45 minutes (a total of one hour and fifteen minutes since I placed my order). I'm not sure what went wrong, but they clearly missed or forgot my orders because we had to wait a further five to ten minutes for them to bring the dishes out after I questioned them.
The birthday song and the cendol did not arrive. We chose to simply tapau the remaining plates and leave the restaurant since we were upset and could not stay any longer.
When I alerted the other staff members that I hadn't received my orders, they merely seemed unconcerned. The only other employee who genuinely apologized was an Indian man dressed in the staff uniform—a navy blue shirt and a black face mask—and he took...
