My wife seemed to have liked this restaurant so much that we came here again, with another friend this time...
We came here for breakfast the other day, at the insistance of my wife. I had no idea about the history of this cafe, as this was my first ever visit. But apparently, my wife had been to this restaurant for more than a hundred times already!! These visits were mostly during the 80's, when she was much younger, obviously...
Located along the famous and busy Jalan Tuanku Abdul Rahman, this venue is a popular destination for every meals, especially for lunch when people were seen queing from outside to get their regular fixes. Luckily, we were still quite early, and could easily secure our seats. But it wasnt for long, as I could observe myself when the crowd started coming in droves..
Aside from the normal kopitiam type of foods, they were three other so-called sub operators fronting the restaurant. These are the Rojak seller, the Nasi Padang guy, and the chinese fried rice and meehoon operator. My wife knew exactly what she wanted to eat. She immediately ordered her favorite Rojak Mamak, which was served almost instantly.
I was quite indefinite about what to eat, as I dont normally have a heavy breakfast. But I also noticed that the two gentlemen sitting at the next table were both having Nasi Goreng. Hence, that was my preferred choice, and it turned out to be a winner after all...The delicious taste was unmistakenly similar to my favorite nasi goreng dishes from Ipoh, which were the best ever!!
The Leng Soh, wife of the owner was sitting at the table next to ours. But she was just having Greek Yoghurt and dried fruits instead...talk about your healthy concoctions for breakfast, while we the customers were pampered by those...
Read moreCapital Cafe is an institution in Kuala Lumpur. It was established in 1956, original signboard and all. It has witnessed many facets, colours and most importantly, histories of our capital city. I have been frequenting this place for few years now, having worked nearby and a favourite catch-up place with friends. The food may not be the best but I absolutely dig their Nasi Padang (lunch) and Satay (dinner only). Original owner has passed on, leaving the cafe to be run by his kids. Old time workers have passed on, replaced by newer ones or siblings co-owners. Come here for the 1Malaysia spirit, long been there before the politicians made it into a hype. Come and chat with the uncle at the cash counter and if the nasi padang pakcik feeling friendly that day, him too 🤭 I have seen many Datuks, Datos, Tan Sris and corporate figures having their lunches here; sleeves rolled up, wiping away sweats and dig into their nasi padang, rojak and mee hailam. Come at night for the superb satay and more relaxed atmosphere while...
Read moreThis place is located in Jalan tunku abdul rahman a long stretch of road that is popular with local tourists. To a lot of people this place is nostalgic with the older ones recalling how they shop for hari raya outfit with their parents and family. Capital cafe - an old "kopitiam" style - is nestled right in the heart of road's most popular shopping area. Walk down the road for about 300m you will find the coliseum - an old restaurant serving excellent sizzling steaks and chicken, and a cinema showing indian movies. Capital cafe is also known as "muhibbah" or harmony where 3 types of food of Malay (nasi padang), Indian (rojak and noodles) and Chinese (hailam mee) are served here. The owner of cafe sells drinks and toast. Personal favourite is the rojak. For the nasi padang, try go for the petai (come early they always run out by 1230) and omelette.
Check out some of the old pictures of kuala lumpur in the 60s and 70s on the wall of the cafe. I think they can easily add few more tables here to...
