The service in the Front Room is exemplary. Pete and his team are friendly, patient and do all they can to please us - the customers.
My rating of the food is 4.5⭐. Over 3 visits, I have tried a variety of food from the menu. All were good, and a few outstanding. Our clear favourite during our first visit was the Pear and Ricotta salad - it was beautifully balanced - the crunch from the pear and nuts, the ricotta and dressing that did not overwhelm the salad. Big Balls was hearty and I wished there were more toasted sourdough to mop up the sauce. Pork sliders were good too although I am not crazy with the soft buns (to be fair, the description does say soft milky bun). The humble cheese toastie was elevated by the intense tomato soup. Idea was for you to dunk the toastie into the soup. The carbonara pasta was good too.
On my second visit, I had the NYC bagel. Oh my, the bagel which was crusty on the outside, chewy on the inside (but not sticking to your teeth) and came with a lashing of cream cheese is the best I have tried in KL. The scrambled eggs were creamy. I wished the bacon slices were bigger though; they looked scrawny next to the bagel. The portion of pasta bolognese was generous. A huge heap of pasta that was coated with yummylicious bolognese sauce. Pasta was a bit overdone which Pete took note of.
3rd visit: eggs benedict was excellent. Smoked duck salad - loved the smokiness of the duck, plenty of texture, a tad sweet.
The Front Room is a cozy cafe that the Taman Desa neighbourhood can be proud of. We do not have to journey all the way to places like Bangsar or Damansara Heights to get our fix of topnotch cafe food. My only regret is I only discovered this place recently and they have been around for...
Read moreDescribing Front Room is a little like explaining a dream — you’ll understand it best once you experience it for yourself. Tucked along Old Klang Road, this café offers more than just a place to eat; it’s a delightful fusion of flavours, heart, and homegrown hospitality.
The food? Absolutely superb. If I had to label it, I’d call it a Malaysian-Western fusion, though even that feels too narrow. You’ll find familiar local flavours elegantly paired with Western presentation and flair – a kitchen clearly run with creativity and confidence. Each dish feels thoughtfully crafted, not just assembled.
Service is a highlight, too – warm, attentive, and clearly family-run. There’s something special about being served by people who genuinely care about what they’re bringing to your table. It shows.
Now, here’s where things get a bit unique – Front Room is one half of a two-part experience. Its sibling café, Upside Down, is just next door, and both are linked not just by location but by the same passion for good food and good vibes. Think of them as culinary cousins — different styles, same DNA.
That said, there is one drawback. The café doesn’t accept card payments (debit or credit), which can be a bit of a buzzkill considering the slightly higher-end pricing. QR-based eWallets are the only option for now, so come prepared or risk that awkward scramble at the counter. A place this lovely truly deserves to offer more convenient payment options — it would make the entire experience that much smoother.
In short, Front Room is a charming, flavour-forward café worth discovering. Go for the food, stay for the warmth, and maybe drop a gentle hint at the counter about adding card machines to...
Read moreIt was my first time coming to Front Room and I have to say that it left an incredible impression on me. The warm and welcoming atmosphere captures you as soon as you step through the door with the natural lighting and subtle music playing in the background easing you into the upcoming experience.
The staff were incredibly friendly and treat you as if you were one of their own, bringing the whole dining experience to another level. Additionally, the friendly banter and chats you have with the staff made the visit incredibly memorable!
We ordered the Duck Wellington and Ayam & Waffles for our mains. The Duck Wellington was amazing, generous portion easily feeding 2 people (or 1 really hungry person hehe!). The blend of duck breast with the mushroom is quite intense, but eaten with the orange sauce cuts through the strong flavours incredibly well.
As for the Ayam & Waffles, it was one of the most unique dishes I have come across. Think chicken and waffles but instead of southern fried chicken, its rich ayam rendang. Sounds weird but I assure you that it is to die for and worth the adventure!
We had the tiramisu as a dessert and it really is delicious. The rich creamy mascarpone and the coffee soaked lady fingers blend beautifully with a light hint of alcohol at the end. This is one dessert I highly recommend to anyone if its their first time.
Overall, I highly recommend Front Room to any cafe goers or anyone looking for something new to try! The delicious food, welcoming atmosphere and incredible service is worth every...
