Eyes Closed, Moist Lips and A Yearning Heart was How We Enjoyed This Unctuous Wagyu

First off, this is a review of their delivery service and not dine-in.

“Your Home Away From Home Dining Experience”. A very intuitive and bold statement. A promise of the luxuries of home cooked food away from home. But how do they fare?

Service: We placed the order via a third party app which was pretty straight forward.

Packaging: Ordinary take away boxes.

Japanese Wagyu Steak (100g) (RM 138)

The term Japanese Wagyu tends to be overrated and overused of late. There have been instances where we received Australian Wagyu which have be coined “Japanese” wagyu. And at the price of RM 138, we were even more skeptical having seemed too good to be true. However, upon opening the take away, we embraced the perfectly sliced Japanese Wagyu with wide, mouth watering open mouths. The beautiful marbling intertwined with the meat cooked with the perfect doneness, what a sight to behold. The tender succulent meat just melted into our mouths like an ice cube in summer leaving one craving for more.

The accompanying vegetables however had a more oriental twist, fried with garlic chips. Refreshing, crunchy and went well with the meat giving it a nice crunch.

Recommended? Back home, we used to eat “Melt In Your Mouth Wagyu” and to say that Kimiya has lived up to their promise, is a gross understatement. They have managed to transport us back to a distant memory of home.

Kimiya (OUG Branch) – A Disastrous Booking Experience

I had an incredibly disappointing experience with Kimiya at OUG branch regarding my Chinese New Year Eve reunion dinner reservation for 2025. I made a booking on December 7 at 8:20 PM, expecting a smooth and hassle-free dining experience for such an important occasion. However, as the date approached, I called to confirm my reservation—only to be told that my booking had been taken by someone else!

This shocking mistake completely messed up my reunion dinner plans, as most restaurants were already fully booked by then. Instead of offering any apology, solution, or alternative arrangement, the staff at Kimiya OUG simply brushed it off as if it were no big deal. Their lack of accountability and customer service was truly unacceptable.

For a restaurant that claims to be reputable, this kind of irresponsibility and mismanagement is inexcusable, especially during such an important festive period. I was left scrambling for last-minute arrangements, and the stress it caused was completely unnecessary.

If you’re planning a special occasion or an important gathering, I strongly advise against trusting Kimiya OUG with your reservations. Their complete disregard for customers’ plans and failure to offer a solution show that they do not value their patrons.

Extremely...

[DEAD LARGE FLY IN SOY SAUCE DISPENSER] Despite the positive reviews on Facebook, Google, and Xiao Hong Shu, I was deeply disappointed by the restaurant’s food hygiene and service attitude.

My visit on May 1st, 2023, was marred by spotting a DEAD LARGE FLY while pouring soy sauce from the dispenser (please see photo).

Have no ideas on how long the fly had been soaking in the dispenser; how many customers had accidentally consumed the contaminated soy sauce; and whether the issue was isolated to just the dispenser on my table or the original bottle of soy sauce.

Although I immediately brought this to the attention of the staffs, their response was unsatisfactory. They replaced the dispenser without an apology and only collected dispensers from a FEW tables instead of all of them, which raised more concerns about their hygiene standards. As a Japanese restaurant, I expected a HIGHER STANDARD OF HYGIENE. The way the staffs handled the situation was disappointing.

I brought the issue up with the manager/supervisor, who apologized and offered a free dessert, which we refused. And she insisted to compensate me with reward points for my next visit.

While the food was okay, the experience has left a bad taste in my mouth, and I hope the restaurant takes steps to improve their hygiene and...

The food quality was good, the sashimi is fresh. BUT the service is very disappointed. Ordered a sukiya beef, waited for 45mins to arrive. That should be the last food that took so long to cook! The staff has no idea how to serve food, as they served the sashimi (of a set) separately, so my friend ate it as she thought that was the food that she ordered. Then, they served the set without cawamushi, which goes back to the point: the art of serving. I need to asked for the cawamushi, otherwise I doubt they would send them to us. The staff needs a lot of prompting from customers for their food, which makes me feel u worth for their premium price. No doubt, the food quality is there but the service is very bad. Lastly, they have this "interesting" sweet sauce that is not sweet at all and looks exactly like my tempura sauce. After confirm twice with different staffs, they confirmed that is their sweet sauce! What an odd experience, I definitely won't come back again.
