I liked how the place looks new, is air-conditioned and offers a comfortable dine in experience. Parking here can be challenging so it's best to plan your visits or exercise some patience. I got their steamed chicken with rice, a bowl of their recommended Ipoh kai si hor fun, signature iced coffee and egg tart. The steamed chicken was commendable. The meat was moist and tender whereas the soy sauce complimented it very well. There were blood present in the chicken which didn't bother me but it might for some. While the chicken skin wasn't the kind where it's fatty and plumpy, it still managed to deliver a decent taste. The chilli sauce was actually quite nice and hit a good spot. The rice was fragrant enough but the highlight for me was the kai si hor fun. I personally enjoyed the rich and flavorful broth that had the sweetness and aroma of shrimps. However, I felt that the hor fun was abit coarse in texture and lacked that smooth and bouncy texture that I love from a good bowl of Ipoh hor fun. The iced coffee did not have that smooth velvety richness but was passable and so was the egg tart.
Update: I came back again for their kai sii hor fun because that was the highlight in my last visit. Sure enough, the broth did not disappoint. Flavorful and sweet with noticeable shrimp aroma. The hor fun wasn't the bouncy kind but it no longer had that coarse texture which I disliked in my past visit. This time around I ordered the kampung chicken. The meat texture had that nice firmness to it and I thought it was decent.
Update: I gave their char siew and siew yoke and try. Sadly both were below my expectations. The char siew lacked that caramelisation and the charry goodness. The meat was lean and chewy. The siew yoke was nothing to shout about either. Some of the siew yoke were also rather dry and chewy. The saving grace here was the fragrant rice which came with nice aroma. The chilli and ginger condiments helped to enhance the flavors somewhat. I would suggest to stick with their chicken hor fun soup and...
Read moreFirst time here, ordered a single portion of chicken rice, taugeh, braised egg and singature coffee. I will break it down for one of each.
Chicken Rice - Requested for chicken breast, texture of the chicken is good, not dry and smooth. Chicken is served with fried garlic + onion oil and soy sauce. Rice is more on the yellow side maybe because of tumeric? but also very fragrant. Garlic ginger paste and chilli is good too. If we can request to have less oil then it would be great, a bit too much oil to my liking.
Taugeh - Good and crunchy. Smallest size available is M, which can easy share up to 3 people. I hope that they can add a S size for single diners like me or have an option to add on to the single portion chicken rice.
Braised Egg - Average, nothing much to comment except some people might not like the white pepper on top.
Singature Coffee - Surprisingly good. Reminds me of the Ipoh White Coffee style.
Overall, it's a very chicken rice shop place if you really like white chicken. Next time I shall try...
