8/8/25 midnight RM29 for a light supper. Fried shrimp thing, salad prawn ( prefer this), one char siew pau, Siew Mai, porridge, and (discovered you can buy just ONE) sar Kok and 2 Chinese teas.
4/7/25 RM37.70, price gone up I think compared to 9 months back..but still, for so many dim sum dishes and open, so many customers, freshly steamed food at 2.30am, so grateful, someplace to eat! Today everything tastes sweet though:, ccf sauce was just too sweet. Not ordering the fried fish ball anymore, too much flour. Fried shrimp roll, char siu pau, lor Mai Kai all ok.
7/24 Sooo lively at 10pm. The feel is similar to an outstation hawker outdoor centre. Omg ...people just kept streaming in. Luckily they have set out additional tables outdoors all the way to the corner and back. It was a lovely balmy evening and an entertaining experience.
To be honest, the dim sum here isn't top notch. Then again, prices are low and it's open till late..so that's a win. Of our orders, our picks were the porridge, fried fish ball and prawn chee cheong fun RM6. The cheong fun had a bouncy, soft texture. Your teeth hit the skin..there is a second of chewy resistance before it yields. The rest weren't too good, skin was thick, prawns were smaller, lor Mai Kai was hard and tasteless, etc. But again...for the price and unless we find another dim sum place open so late...
As for our bill, earlier was told RM53.50. We asked for breakdown of prices cos there is no written bill.... we calculated and then perhaps he got confused cos too many people during CNY, the new total became RM43.50 for all the dim sum ordered and 2 glasses of Chinese tea. Thank you...we saved RM10 and want to trust that it was a mistake :) Many years ago, we had the same issue.
Update: July 2024. Have been back twice since and billed by a very nice fella called Ronaldo (?) and then a chinese lady, no issues - all good. Prawn chee cheong fun is still chewey and bouncy, prawns are bit larger compared to CNY time. Fishball smelt a bit fishy 😅, fried prawn choon kin was delish as was the salad har. Very good 👍 still cheap, last bill around RM26. Har kau had a thick, floury coating. Won't order again.
1/9/24 May not come again unless it's too late elsewhere and am dying for dim sum. Quality dropped, sad. Steamed dim sum and CCF no good this round. Luckily the fried...
Read moreSituated on Old Klang Road late on is a modest eatery, decked out to the brim this Monday night with Chinese and Indian diners, its street lined with cars, sometimes double-parked. Finding a table can take time, as can finding a parking space within walking distance. The food isn’t made to restaurant standards and except for the tea, may not even be served piping hot. So what is the draw, one may ask?
The price point was one: the 10 items that fed the two of us cost just over RM50. Also, all the items are made in-house, not in a factory. Yes, there is MSG; they use some frozen meats and some items tend to be a tad sweet; yet, they are always freshly cooked on the day itself and you can recognise clearly what you eat, even if you were to be blindfolded. The fact that the harkow 蝦餃was sold out well before midnight is a clear sign that some items, if not all, are worth the trip.
The deep fried items did not taste oily, tending to remain dry and crispy on the outside even when cool. From among the other items, I highly recommend the century egg porridge and steamed glutinous rice, both redolent with the aroma of rice, the stuffed bitter gourd, the char siew pau and the steamed bean curd.
It would take a rather mean, fussy person to fault such a business on that price point. And if you’re actually hungry, shouldn’t everything taste just a tad...
