Read moreAfter much contemplation of what to eat, we choose soupy noodles. This restaurant was nearby, has air conditioning, and has my nephew's favourite drink & dessert. Although parking was a challenge.
They have special promotions on their menu. I picked the promotiom - Pho with beef balls & beef slices. A plate of 6 mini spring rolls was given free. Add on of RM 4+ for Vietnamese milk tea. Sounds great. We wrote the order down & added to the remarks : No sugar. We ordered 2 more bowls of Pho, 2 drinks, and 3 dessert. I ordered the Osmanthus jelly with longan. My guests ordered their favourite creme caramel.
The server explained that all their beverages were pre mixed and that sugar was already added to the beverages. What a bummer! He was nice and suggested ice lemon tea. He made a black tea with lemon rings and ice without sugar. Better than nothing. They used to provide bottles of water for their customers, but I think they have stopped doing so.
Bowls of Pho reached our table with side plates of beansprouts & basil leaf. Took a spoonful of the broth and another. Quickly added in the beansprouts. All of us tucked into the Pho to enjoy the noodles & it's content. My meatballs were cut into half and the beef slices were thinly sliced and was able to be cooked in the broth. I find the broth was not hot as the sprout was not blanched and remain a bit raw & crunchy.
No wonder in the menu, it was written confidently - beef slices : medium rare. I would prefer my soup to be hotter. Perhaps, to order a bowl of Pho without the beef slices. The soup has lost its beefy taste and is kind of diluted.
My guests think that the flan creme caramel is different from what used to be the taste. My nephew's avocado drink was different from the menu too. What was shown on the menu differs from what you receive. The creme caramel on the menu looks vibrant with a rich & dark caramel sauce. What we received was a dull looking sauce. My nephew loves this dessert and knows its taste. He mentioned it was not the same.
On the whole, the service is good and the anbience remain cosy and clean. Total bill of the visit...
Read moreNice Vietnamese cuisine outlet within Ampang area, opposite of M City Condo. Tucked within the shoplots and residential area, parking is available by the roadside. Food presentation amd portion is of the Melbourne style and they pride themselves of using only Australian quality beef. That explains the high price of the food. Be ready to fork out for a big bowl of Beef Noodles for the price of almost RM19. They do offer bahn mi (Vietnamese sandwich) promotion during weekdays. Despite of the steep price, outlet is visited by local communities as it is a Halal restaurant and often seen patronised by the expats communities as well. There is not a single Vietnamese service crew in this restaurant, only local Malays, and of the other foreign Asian crew. Easy ordering method which is to tick on the order form what you wish to have.
Update 12 Dec 2020: Returned for lunch, surprised to see the crews are all foreigners (and they are not of Vietnamese descent) neither of any locals. It spoilt the 'Super Saigon' environment serving Vietnamese cuisine. Anyway, ordered a food item from their new menu, the Heart Attack Beef Fried Rice. What can I say ... there is a thumbs up icon signifying the food is of a recommendation, but the taste is completely the opposite of a recommendation. The fried rice is wet and oily. The chef could really learn how to properly cook a fried rice dish, seriously. My Mrs who had the Pho Bo (Beef Noodles) felt the standard this time had dropped significantly. Maybe it can cater to the patrons seeking Halal food, unfortunately, its Vietnamese authentic delicacy can never match the competitors out there serving the true taste of...
