Shiang Hee (or double happiness in Chinese) has been around for ages - in fact, when my ex-gf came out to study in KL and stay with her aunt in Menjalara, this restaurant was their go-to place for cheap and affordable Chinese meal once in a while.
Recently, we had a family dinner together with her aunt and she suggested Shiang Hee again which everyone agreed to reminiscent the old times. As expected, parking was a pain in the arse affair but the dinner affair was pleasant on the other hand.
◾steamed bak sou gong - fresh fish with lovely soy sauce. ◾salted egg yolk squid - enough of the savoury salted egg yolk coating the squid. ◾siong tong yin choy - green quota + soup.. very Chinese indeed. ◾ginger & spring onion ostrich meat - tender meat and delicious gravy. ◾steamed herbal chicken - half chicken was not enough for us. ◾Sizzling beancurd with minced meat - something to pacify the kids. ◾stir fried sweet potato leaves - for the green quota.

Read moreWe have been eating here almost every week. But my recent visit was very unpleasant. Ordered two steamed fish and one of the fish was not fresh and stinks. So we feedback this to the owner of the restaurant. The owner was very very rude and arrogant. They didn’t even want to listen to what we wanted to say and simply INSISTED that all their fish were very fresh. So we asked them to try eating.
They took the fish back to the kitchen and came back insisting that their fish was very fresh. We shouldn’t even eat in the first place if the fish stinks. Mind you, when the fish was hot, it doesn’t stinks as badly as when it became cold. They were implying that it was because we didn’t want to pay, so we were complaining that their fish stinks.
For your information, we just need an apology. We didn’t ask for any compensation. We WILL NOT visit this restaurant again. To be honest, the food here are just average. The only reason why we eat here is because...
Read moreMy go to 饭堂 or family/friends weekend meal canteen for years already.
Solid chinese food place with reasonable prices. Recently also noticed they have improved their selection of white rice as well compared to the one I’ve had for years.
Suggest getting any variety of their tilapia in their various method of preparation for fish. For the price they are charging I’m totally not complaining at all. RM23-25 for small.
Ginger scallion venison, salt and pepper frogs and their signature fried housemade tofu are also solid options. Be prepared for long queues if you do not reserve a table in advance. And suggest going...
