This review is for a takeaway.
Regent has one of the best Ipoh Sar Hor fun and I’ve been ordering from them for years.
Today was no different, my niece who is leaving for the UK wanted to eat it before she flew back. I ordered a Seafood Canto noodle, 3 x Ipoh hor fun and a veg dish.
All the prawns in the seafood canto noodle were not fresh and also for one of the Ipoh hor fun. They were very mushy which means it’s not fresh. Usually the prawns given in the Ipoh hor fun are big but today was smaller than usual.
I complained to the waitress I ordered from and instead of apologizing, she blamed it on the takeaway packaging saying that I left it in the container for long and the steam within the takeaway container had made the prawns what they are. She said next time if it happens again to call her and send it back so they can recook a new order. When you do takeaway usually one would eat within 30mins from the food arriving. I myself like to reheat the items because I like my food piping hot. Do you expect my cranky elderly parents to who usually at eat around 130pm, call and tell you it’s not fresh and have to send it back to you and wait for a new order to arrive which will take at least an hour plus to arrive?
I’ve ordered prawns more than 20 times from Regent and other restaurants, they were not mushy if fresh. If steam within the container had anything to do with it, it would make the prawns tougher and more chewy. I’m disappointed in the way she handled it even though she said she will comp the dish next time I visit. Rm88 for a canto noodle dish with mushy prawns, vege and abit of squid was basically just a very expensive...
Read moreOh, this was probably one of the most delightful dinners I've ever endured. The food was the epitome of mediocrity, especially for the exorbitant price—you can definitely find better in KL without even trying. One bowl of peanuts for RM12? Must be because they have miraculous cancer-curing properties. The soy sauce prawns were almost indistinguishable from deep-fried ones and cost a mere RM50 PER PRAWN. But the pièce de résistance was the ‘sao bao’ (birthday buns) at a steal of RM138 per serving. The roasted chicken, close to RM200, was a masterpiece of dryness and lack of flavor. The vegetables were so bland that they practically begged for soy sauce. At least the tofu was decent, though it came at a bargain price of RM6 per piece, also perhaps for its cancer curing properties.
The service was equally charming. In the middle of my meal, the wait staff decided to snatch my plate away to replace it with a new one, causing my spoon to graciously fall onto my shirt and stain it. The waitress, of course, was the picture of courtesy—she handed me a wet tissue and left me to clean up the mess myself, with no hint of an apology or solution. We had the pleasure of waiting close to 40 minutes for the first dish, and an additional 20 minutes for the cake at the end.
All in all, it was an absolutely wonderful experience. Do yourself a favor and take your stomach and wallet somewhere that actually...
Read moreI had the most unpleasant dinner at this restaurant last night. Nine of us were placed at the back of the restaurant next to another group of 10 (or more). They started singing, at the top of their voices, repeatedly, again and again, Happy Birthday. This was a bit annoying at first, but bearable. However, as they got either more excited or drunk, or both, the staff even provided them with a karaoke speaker! The deafening high level noise was sustained for the rest of the evening. For the second half of my meal, I could not even hear myself speak, let alone having a conversation with the person next to me. Complaints to staff had zero effect. No one thought this was unacceptable. No one even attempted to have a gentle word with them. For me, going out on dinner is not just about food, but to meet friends and enjoy each other’s company. If I can not hear what my neighbours are saying even if we are shouting, what is the point of going to this restaurant? The proprietor indulged the excesses of one small group at the expense of the rest of his clients. He should be aware that even if his food and service are exceptional, which is certainly not the case, he is not the only one in town. I will not come back to this place even if I have nowhere else to go in KL. Goodbye...
