Really not worth the visit... a couple is issues from my perspective: Service is really poor - although there are a lot of servers around, it’s difficult to catch their eye to get service - and they charge a 10% service charge automatically on the bill (which you pay yourself at the front till). I tried to give some feedback on our bad experience to the gentleman at the front desk while paying and he just smiled, giggled, nodded and said goodbye - I asked why he wasn’t interested in hearing feedback from his customers and he quickly dashed off. Very strange, I must say... They add unordered/not received items to your bill without your permission. We got a tiny bowl of unpleasant-tasting, rubbery fungus on our table when we sat down. We assumed it must be complimentary (like bread on the table), so tasted it - but didn’t eat it... it was charged as “tidbits” (RM3.80) on our bill. We also had a charge for 2x wet napkins (RM1.60) yet never received a single napkin on our table - not wet or dry. I challenged these two charges and they eventually removed them from my bill - but I do feel the standard practice of adding things not ordered or not received is dishonest and unacceptable. I wonder how many people even realize they are being charged for these, as they don’t print your bill and bring it to your table... They charge RM1.70 per half glass of tap water - we ordered bottled water, but they didn’t have any in stock, so asked if we would be happy with filtered tap water. We were ok with that - but, were surprised to each receive a small glass only half full. I’m ok with paying for tap water, but then please at least give me a full glass of it... Lastly - and possibly most importantly, the food was not great either. My daughter’s sweet and sour pork had good flavor and was a reasonable size, but the pork pieces were full of cartilage and bits of bone - she left it after 2 bites. And the fried prawn dumplings had a thick, tough shell with a strange flavor and texture. The egg fried rice and the pork belly noodle soup were...
Read moreI was there few weeks ago with my neighbours and had the usual mapo tofu (my favourite!), hot and sour soup etc etc. But the service has dropped tremendously and I realised the surpervisers and servers were new. We were stopped halfway from going in at the front entrance as the manager (I assume he's the manager) to check our vaccine status but there was no one to greet us. We scanned and checked our temperatures on our own actually. He rushed forward to stop us. And the way he waved at us was rude and abrupt. Where's the Good Evening, how are you today? usual polite greetings?! We were seated on the right side with everyone else while the rest of the restaurant was pretty empty. I guess it was easier to manage and short of manpower perhaps? And next came the superviser who not only did not greet us (never mind), he was hovering around our table as if to rush us to order quickly. And he grabbed the pen from my hand when I was repeating my orders as if I was going to steal that pen?! No doubt everyone was wearing mask, I could feel the smirk on his face. No manners, I'm afraid. And when we asked for chilli oil, another Chinese lady came forward with YES?. I had friendlier service and banter with store owners in kopi tiams and mamaks than this! Its all very abrupt, abrasive and petty! We didn't enjoy our dinner at all, to be honest. I left this review only now as I wanted to let it go but upon reading another restaurant (in TTDI) getting unfair and underserving reviews, I felt restaurants good and bad need to be called out, praised or not. Please improve your soft skills, I left Paradise Dynasty, Kiara163 pretty upset and so...
Read moreThe specialty is all types of xiao long bao (XLB) so the dumplings here are very delicate and delicious.
They have the classic original pork dumplings as well as special flavoured pork dumplings like truffle, foie gras, kimchi, cheese, szechuan, crab roe, garlic, as well as a couple of sweet options like red bean.
The skins are evenly thin and delicate but well-made enough to hold in the gentle broth, and not distract from the filling. Certainly one of the poshest xiao long bao we've had. We chose the multi-flavour option to try out all the savoury XLB flavours. The mixed set comes with eight flavours - original, foie gras, cheese, truffle, crab roe, szechuan, kimchi, and garlic. Our favourite were the original, garlic and cheese.
We also really enjoyed dessert. The mango pudding was fresh, full of mango pulp and perfectly balanced in terms of sweet and tart.
The black sesame Tang Yuan in a hot ginger soup looks simple but has the perfect spicy kick, and we enjoyed it immensely since it was warm and comforting. It's not one for the kids, though. Too spicy for the kiddos. We want to come back and try more desserts.
We regret not finding this place sooner. It's great value especially for afternoon tea (there was a promo at 40% off dumplings, sides and desserts between 3pm to 5pm) and pretty in that kind of chinese banquet-type way that makes you feel fancy.
The only downfall is that noise levels can get pretty high as the tables fill up, but this is only a minor annoyance that is compensated by the good quality food.
Yum,...
