As someone of mixed Malaysian Chinese and Thai heritage, and having lived in Thailand for over six years, I can confidently say Yellow Spoon Thai Cuisine offers some of the most authentic Thai food in Klang Valley. It felt like a comforting return to home flavours. 🌿 PAD KRAPOW MINCED PORK This was one of the most authentic versions of pad krapow I’ve had in Klang Valley. The use of real holy basil (not the more commonly used Thai basil, "jiǔcéngtǎ") is a rare and commendable touch. The flavour was spot on, with the signature bold and slightly peppery aroma of holy basil. Most Malaysians might find this unfamiliar as they're used to the milder and cheaper Thai basil, but for those who know, this is a treat!!! 🐔 GREEN CURRY CHICKEN While the green curry appeared watery at first glance, the flavours proved otherwise. The richness of the coconut milk and the balance of spices created a velvety smooth and deeply flavorful curry. The fragrance of the kaffir lime leaves and galangal was evident, giving it a fresh and aromatic finish. 🦐 TOM YUM SEAFOOD The tom yum was rich, thick, and packed with seafood, including generous portions of prawns and squid. Its flavour leaned towards the sour side, which may appeal to many, but for me, with my low tolerance for sourness...it was slightly overwhelming. Still, the robustness of the lemongrass, kaffir lime leaves, and chili paste made it a standout dish. 🥗 KANKUNG BELACAN This was a delightful surprise! The kangkung was cooked to perfection...neither too soggy nor too raw, with a beautifully balanced belacan flavour that was rich, smoky, and savoury. Each bite carried the right amount of wok hei, adding a depth that’s not always easy to achieve with this dish. 🍳 OMELETTE CHA OM The cha om omelette was a hit. It had a crispy golden exterior, while the inside was soft and bursting with the earthy, herbal aroma of cha om leaves. This dish truly brought back memories of home-cooked Thai meals. It paired wonderfully with the other dishes, especially the green curry. 🥩 GRILLED PORK NECK Grilled pork neck is a classic Thai dish, and this rendition was very close to how it’s made back in Thailand. The flavour was spot on, smoky and savoury, but I found it slightly too dry and lean for my liking. A bit more fat would have made it more tender and juicy. 🥥 TUB TIM KROB (RED RUBY) This dessert was a winner. The creamy coconut milk was rich but not overly sweet, perfectly complementing the crunchy water chestnut pieces encased in their ruby-red coating. The balance of textures...soft, crunchy, and creamy, made it a joy to eat. 🥭 MANGO STICKY RICE This was the only slight letdown for me. While the sticky rice was perfectly cooked...soft, slightly chewy, and fragrant, the mango was unfortunately a tad sour, which detracted from the overall experience. Overall Summary? If you’ve ever experienced authentic local Thai food...not the commercialized versions commonly served in tourist spots, then you’ll know exactly what I’m talking about. Yellow Spoon Thai Cuisine has successfully brought the heart of Thailand to Klang Valley, delivering flavours that are bold, aromatic, and true to their roots.

We came to try their Pork Leg Rice and as it was mentioned that the Chef was Cordon Bleu trained we certainly had high expectations for our first time. The menu was 'impressive' as not only did they have Pork Leg Rice, they also do ala carte dishes. We were tempted, no doubt about it and so we ordered; Pork Leg Rice set B that had more skin less meat (set A was the contrary i.e more meat less skin) Pork Kad Prao Rice set with egg, Cha Om Omelette Kangkung Belacan Larb Moo Lemongrass water Thai Grass jelly Our verdict? Well, it was damn disappointing!!!! I think the Cordon Bleu Chef had some taste bud issues on the Pork Leg Rice. It was UTTERLY bland! The rice they used were obviously a very low grade of Jasmine (or not?!) rice too. Pickled mustard vegetables looked so unappetizing on the rice. Cucumber used were overripe. We have never tasted such bad Pork Leg Rice in our lives! And the audacity to advertise the restaurant with a prestigious Chef? Honestly, the Chef should be ashamed of churning out such low quality fare! However, to be fair, the other 3 dishes of egg, vegetable and mince pork were decent. Don't bother with the Lemongrass water. Only the colour of it looked like lemongrass but other than that, you are better off drinking plain water - no difference and probably much cheaper! Thai Grass jelly texture was chewy but I did not like the lime juice that was mixed in. I specifically told them no sugar but it fell on deaf ears. Plus the fact that the lime juice probably came from the bottled ones, it tasted bitter when staff mixed too much of it. As we were there for dinner, we were ushered to another shop lot a few doors away. Service was horrible as they were understaffed for the 2 separate shops, we were halfway through the meal when drinks came. Paying for the bill was at the main shop. We went to try after the 'rave reviews of Thai authenticity' but left with disappointment and felt it was a waste of time and money. There are much better Thai food in KL.

Decided to try Yellow Spoon after watching a Tik Tok Food Influencer’s video recommending their Thai cuisine. Being a Sunday, we anticipated a large lunch crowd so went early 11am. There were 2 tables ahead of us and 1 table after us. Food: 1. Prawn Cake: Appreciate they are made in-house. Could see and taste chunks of chopped Prawns. Paired nicely with Sweet Chili Sauce. 2. Prawns with Petai is nice, well prepared, generous good sized Prawns. 3. Ground Pork Basil Leaves Onion and Chilies was alright. 4. The Omelette with Vegetables was tasty but very oily. Omelette was the last to arrive. We waited a long time for the dish. Majority of Thai restaurants churn-out their dishes at lightning speed. Yellow Spoon dishes are acceptable but the wait time needs improvement. Service: The lady boss took our order. She was patient, friendly. Restaurant has many staff but they are not attentive, inexperienced, not productive. Hope the Chef and owner realizes the front of house is equally important as the kitchen. There was a table of 4 who left the restaurant because no one came to take their order. Restaurant filled-up quickly. Many customers had to walk-up to the counter to request for things. A few even brought dirty dishes for staff. Atmosphere: Restaurant does not have air-condition. Advised to sit inside where it’s cooler. Ambience is simple, clean. I’m hoping Yellow Spoon will improve on their service and speed of dishes soon.
