Serves Hakka Chinese style Chee Cheong Fun, Yong Tau Foo (Fried and Soup), Other Noodles, Steamboat, etc. Its another branch of the one in Pudu but the operating method/ordering method is totally different. All prices are nett.

Atmosphere: 4.25🌟 Its good and comfy with nice Air conditioning. Table and seats are sturdy and nice and tables not too near each other. The place isn't too packed.

Service: 3.25🌟 Service is quite attentive and friendly. However, the ordering method here is totally different than the usual place where we can just take what we see (including the Pudu branch of same brand). Here you have to go through a pretty confusing menu to find out the best value for your money. i) You can't order 1 single pieces of a type of Yong Tau Foo ii) Things are order in a bundle (like minimum 3-4 pieces per bowl) of the same type of item usually priced around Rm 6 to 12 iii) They offer a combo bowl where you can mix and match minimum 4 pieces They will need to simplify this surely if they want to attract more customers as people already have options choosing problem and multiple combinations of the same thing with different value to it will makes people avoid things all together.

Food: Curry Chee Cheong Fun 4🌟 The curry is flavourful and nice and the noodle is thin and smooth with a good portion. Good amount of dried shrimps is added in elevate the level of this bowl. Priced at Rm 4.50

Food: Minced Pork Lou Shu Fun (Dry) 3.5🌟 Ordered spicy version, its quite nice as noodle is very smooth and plenty of minced pork. The sauce is quite nice as well. Priced at Rm 8

Food: Yong Tau Foo (Soup) Pork Balls 3.5🌟, Chili 3.5🌟, Ladies Finger 3.5🌟, Tao Pok 3🌟, Bitter Gourd 3.25🌟 Pork balls is quite big and nice flavour and texture. Priced at Rm 9.50 for 4 balls. Other items are decent size except Tao Pok which is just so so. Priced at Rm 6.50 for 3 pieces.

Food: Yong Tau Foo (Fried) Eggplant - 3.25🌟, Salted Egg Yam Wantan 2.75🌟 Eggplant can be a bit oily but its okay. Size for both is quite okay as well. Priced at Rm 6.50 for 3 pieces. Yam Wantan crispy/crunchy but pricey at Rm 10.50 for 3 pieces as its not that big (a bit smaller than usual fried dumpling)

Food: Yong Tau Foo (Curry Soup) Fu Chok 3.75🌟 Pork Skin 3.75🌟 Both are really nice and perfectly drenched with tasty curry....

Type: Chinese Restaurant Signature: Chee Cheong Fun and Yong Tau Fu

One of KL's Icon for Chee Cheong Fun and Yong Tau Fu.. The original Yap Hup Kee (HQ) is located near Pudu. The one we are reviewing is a branch located in Kuchai Lama. Firstly, the Signature Chee Cheong Fun with Sweet Sauce (5 🌟) managed to retain its authentic simple and delicious taste and flavour. Do try the curry Chee Cheong Fun also which is equally good. We also like the Curry Pork Skin (4 🌟) which pairs really well with the Chee Cheong Fun.

We ordered the Dry (Fried Tofu, Fried Fish cakes, et ) 4 🌟 and also the soup based Yong Tau Fu (3.5 🌟) comprising fishballs, meatballs, etc. The Dry fried stuffs are really good but the soup based ones.. (esp the meat balls) tend to be a bit soft and the taste is only so so. My personal favourite is their Vegetarian Roasted Goose and also their fried tofu which is really good. Will definitely be back for more.

I had YTF at the Pudu branch many years ago and recalled it being quite good. Recently, I visited the Kuchai branch and found it disappointing, not only because of the food but also due to the strange smell in the ambience. Additionally, they do not offer à la carte options for YTF; all items come in sets of three pieces.

Here are my personal comments on the food:

  1. Chee Cheong Fun with Sweet Sauce, Foo Chok, Lady Fingers - These were fine.

  2. Prawn Dumpling - The big prawn inside the dumpling was fine, but the minced meat had a soft and mushy texture that was very unpleasant.

  3. Eggplant - Both the eggplants and their skins were hard to chew. I prefer eggplants fried to a softer texture.

  4. Honey BBQ Fried Intestine - There was still some intestine smell, which was acceptable, but the honey BBQ taste was not that great.

  5. Six Balls Soup - I ordered the mixed balls soup. The taste was just okay, and the soup was...
