Master Lim Private Kitchen, Kuah, Langkawi — A Hidden Spot for Local Flavours
Visited Master Lim Private Kitchen in Kuah, Langkawi with a group of six. We tried a variety of dishes, starting with fresh oysters, followed by flower crabs cooked in a spicy fragrant style (with a slight Sichuan touch), and Thai lime steamed squid, both a little spicy for some of us, a nice surprise for those who enjoy a bit of heat.
The highlight of the evening was definitely the Penang-style Hokkien fried noodle, especially when enjoyed with their superb sambal. This dish truly stood out and left us wanting more. Book ahead for this Hokkien fried noodle so that you get your fix.
Other dishes we sampled included fried yaomak with fermented bean curd, which was flavourful, and the fried bitter gourd with smooth egg style, which was enjoyable. The steamed scallops with vermicelli and the loh mee (vinegar noodle) were decent, while the fish maw soup was a comforting addition to the meal.
Overall, Master Lim offers a wide range of choices and brings forward local and regional flavours in a homely setting. While some dishes resonated more strongly with us than others, it’s clear that a lot of heart and effort goes into the cooking here.
A lovely spot to explore, especially for those who enjoy trying different styles of Chinese and local-inspired dishes while supporting passionate local...
