The First to operate Satay Celup in Malacca way back in 1966/7 initially at night on a push cart, in a small lane between two buildings about 50m after Capitol Thestre coming from Meng Seng building along Pengkalan Rama on to Jalan Bendahara then. Later the man who started it began to sell his product in late afternoons opposite Bandar Hilir English School grounds(currently the Dataran Pahlawan parking grounds). And by evening he will move on to the small lane again and usually he closes around 10.00 - 10.30 pm.
Those days he only operated from his push cart and with two pots if the satay curry gravy to dip all the different sticks of various fresh food items such as fish ball, prawns, squid, cockels, fish cakes, pork cuts, pork liver, century eggs with pickled gimger,, tauhu pok with cucumbers, tied knots of kangkong leaves, taukus pieces with cucumbers, etc.
Prices then were 5sen per stick except pork, prawn and bigger items were 10sen per stick, and if requested, served with bread cubes and a little cucumber cubes for 10sen per plate.
The savoury and spicy taste of the satay curry gravy were superb and delighted those who tried it for many amongst them became almost regular customers on a weekly basis with some who went on alternate nights. It was not only deliciously appetizing but truly so highly addictive!
When the son took iver, the opened at a small shop lot in Banda Kaba, Bukit Cina and by gosh, during Pre-Covid days they were literally jam-packed almost every night from 6.00 pm till 11.00 pm. But Covid hit them so hard they had to close shop for more than 1 year before they reopened in March 2022 last year at the current venue in a new and more comfortable shop lot in Kota Syahbandar, Melaka on the same row as the famous New Lagoon Redtaurant.
Try it and I won't be surprise if you'll go back for second, third , fourth and probably making a pilgrimage for it every quarterly!
Jokes aside, it's an experience not to be missed! Worth your...
Read moreWanted to follow up on this field report for the visit made on 07 Apr. Capitol Satay has been a legendary name for those who grew up in Malacca. Long never tried but not that bad. Not as spicy as original and taste wise, i would say still quite good. Our thoughts are, name is same, but owner changed already. Sauce - yes, they charge RM20 for new pot, force selling. There is another famous outlet where charges RM30. So RM20 sounds cheaper. At RM20, the amount of peanuts and spice is tons. Food - yes. range from 1.30, 3.00 and 10. Expensive? I felt quite ok. Other place probably sell all 1.30 and more ex food also sell higher. My other review of another place sells at RM1.00, comparatively, that outlet portion is slightly small. Drink - we ordered coke, 100plus, was RM2.80 ( i think), the other cheaper one is rm3, and some other place probably like rm3.50~4.
Left over sauce tapao - we tapao back the sauce and they put in thick plastic bag, no extra charges. My mum told me she split into 3 small containers, all still filled with tons of nuts. The other famous outlet that charges rm30 per new pot, told us to tapao back, they have containers that is rm2 per container.
Conclusion. They may “look expensive”, in general, out of the previous i reviewed and another popular one at OKW road, i still prefer the sauce at this outlet.
Lastly, this place has indoor aircon and outdoor, much much cooler as compared to their...

It’s my first time, and also my last time… due to ridiculously high cost.
First, they forced you to take up the brand new sauce for RM 20, so that is your minimum spend. Understand it’s for hygiene purposes but I think consumer should still have a choice… furthermore, the longer the sauce is brewed, the better it becomes…
Next up… you go inside and you choose your sticks…. They differentiate into short and long sticks, I almost didn’t notice it!
Long sticks = RM 1.30 Short sticks = RM 3 Bowl = RM 5
There’s not many choices for long sticks, and short sticks, Jesus Christ it’s so expensive for us!!! 1 piece of small prawn cost RM 3…. Few pieces of siham also RM 3…. Really….?
And a bowl of vege…. RM 5…? Really…?
Chinese tea ice is RM 1.50… more expensive than KL price.
Look at my photo, that’s about what We have took for the meal, this cost us RM 50, nothing extra. Frozen food, not fresh, nothing special… RM 50…. Could’ve got way more if I went to my regular place instead….
This is no longer the original Capitol like last time…. This is extremely expensive satay celup… food and price just doesn’t worth it…. If you’ve had satay celup before you’d know these prices are honestly ridiculously high.
Good things about this place is that it had aircond and soft drink have a...
