Overall (3/5): Come for the staff, but don't bother with the food.
Food (2/5): Ignoring the price, it just wasn't great. Scones were cold (even Scotts knew to warm them up) and dry, the amount of cream and jam was suitable for 1 scone, not 4 (although they refilled me). However, it was clotted cream, so a plus there. The sandwiches were also dry and the amount of filling was minimal - all bread around the edges. The egg mayo was quite heavy on the onion and the chicken was fairly tasteless. Moreover there weren't enough for two people - essentially 1 full sandwich each. The cakes were very good and the brownie was delicious. The tea was lovely and we were offered a refill. I recommend considering a different approach: 2 scones, the same sandwich set (with a shade more filling), but everything with free refills. It won't cost much but will balance the tea better.
Veggie friendly (4/5): Two of the sandwiches served were veggie and I'm sure they would change the selection if requested.
Price (2/5): RM130 per couple. Plus service. Plus tax. Plus a return taxi. So over RM180 for my 'tea experience'. Value was very poor. That's double (or more) the price of dinner at most nice places in the area. I recommend improving the food offering to bump this up a point or two.
Service (5/5): It can't be all bad, and the staff were wonderful. It was a quiet time, but all tables got periodic check-ins, waiters offered to help with photos, they had some polite banter, were happy to refill my jam, a manger was walking the floor and chatted with some customers, concierge helped book a taxi, porters opened car doors on arrival... Everything you expect at this level.
Atmosphere (4/5): A lovely place to have tea, choose a beautiful view over the golf course or a seat by the koi pond. Clean, relaxing. The piano player was a real treat, but a shame he went 'off duty' nearly an hour before the tea room closed, leaving us in silence for most of our...

Afternoon high tea is a big part of the English vulture. It is so deeply steeped in British history since the 19th century. Originally preserved only for the rich, the tradition has been brought especially to the countries once colonised by the British.
The treat of English tea, sandwiches, scones, pastries and cakes are now being offered by various hotels in the city. And in Cameron Highlands, the best place to enjoy the high tea experience will be at the famous Jim Thompson Tea Room, located in Cameron Highlands Resort.
The cool wind blew on our faces as we stepped into the restaurant where the windows were opened to let the crisp air to cool the whole premise. The setting was distinctively colonial, encompassing the classical English charm with equally charming English hospitality. The service team made sure that everyone got to enjoy themselves during the tea session.
Afternoon Tea - RM75 per person / RM130 per couple (served strictly from 3pm-6pm daily). ◾Chef's choice of Assortment Cakes & Pastries. ◾Smoked Salmon, Egg Mayo, Chicken, Cream cheese with cucumber watercress sandwiches. ◾Freshly Baked Scones served with House-Made Strawberry Jam and Clotted Cream. One of the best around together with the one from Ye Olde Smokehouse and Lord Cafe. ◾Choice of Freshly brewed coffee or Cameronian Gold Blend Tea.
This has got to be the best place for afternoon tea in this Highlands, if you didn't take into account the cost.
Location-wise I believe that this place is one of the best around. Peering out of the window you'll see plants and greenery overlooking the most famous golf course in Cameron Highlands. Part of the YTL group, Jim Thompson Tea Room is where you must go if you want to enjoy English style high tea in stylish and calming...
Read moreYou can come for afternoon tea (3-5pm) or lunch (12-3pm). We happened to try both on different days. Needless to say, service was attentive, professional, warm - special mention to Mr. Santhosh and Ms. Emily who took good care of us. The ambience is beautiful: spacious and luxurious interior, looking out onto the golf course, and lovely design and feel alongside immaculate cleanliness. Lots of seating. Excellent afternoon tea featuring sandwiches, various desserts, and -of course- scones. In some afternoon tea sets there is something that doesn't pull their weight, but this one really blew us away in that EVERY ITEM was really well-crafted. Scones were really outstanding: served warm, crusty exterior, fluffy inside, and complemented with jam and clotted cream. Quite a decent amount of food too and pay extra for more scones. The piano in the background created a peaceful ambience. RM130++ for two (though for light eaters you might be able to spread it between three pax). The lunch is surprisingly underrated too. It was empty when we visited (everyone probably out and about visiting the Cameron Highlands attractions), but the fish and chips were really awesome. Reputedly a dish patronized by Chef Wan when he visits! After tasting, we...
