Tldr: Gave misleading information. Food was 1/10 would not recommend. 有点被坑了, 一点也不值一人RM20的价钱。家里准备火锅都便宜,好吃过这家店。
My friends and I were informed that it would be rm20 per head and that it included a variety of ingredients from pork, seafood, typical steamboat essentials like fishball, fu cheok (stuffed beancurd sheets), tofu and seafood, and an endless flow of vegetables of our selection. The only reason it sounded good to us initially was because of the lack of pictures in the menu they showed us. We were flat out disappointed when the food arrived. Although the coal-heated hotpot looked cool, with sound of sizzling soup, and towering chimney, it's just a gimmick used to attract people and it's exactly the same at other restaurants. The chicken served were of chicken breast and lean pork. Just in case you didn't know, both cuts of their respective meats are not suitable for hotpot as they are irregularly cut, and can be tough and chewy if your timing is not absolutely impeccable, unlike pork belly slices/chicken slices. You can argue that my friends and I just don't have 'absolutely impeccable timing but WHO DOES? The cooking time is challenging to grasp because of the unadjustable heat due the usage of coal. On the other hand, when compared to pork slices/chicken slices, the meat they served do not have as much total surface area exposed to be cooked in a short time, nor have obvious colour indication to show that it is cooked through (it may looked cooked on the outside but not on the inside la). What's worse is, the portion looked especially miserable when placed on a ginormous (an understatement) bed of greens. We were literally served twice as much of greens than proteins. At this point you're probably tired from reading this as I am from typing this. So let me summarize it: Ordered clear soup :bland tasteless In-house- made dumplings (水饺): It's probably not bad but it's just not to our liking (by 'our' I mean all of us 10 people so pretty bad) Pork belly slices: Completely frozen/freezer burned from being stored for god knows how many decades. Japanese tofu: Honestly if you're a Malaysian or not a foreigner ( or a psychopath) you wouldnt order japanese tofu for steamboat. They served us THIS TOFU. (I am past the anger stage of grieving for my terrible dinner experience)
Konklusinya, it's probably our bad for not being good consumers and surveying thr nearby restaurants. Having our meal here was probably one of our worst decisions made ever in our life. Although food is very subjective, my friends and I highly recommend against dining at this restaurant. If there's any chance the owner is reading this, I hope you freaking try to improve your restaurant and take what I have said into consideration cuz your food sucks pepega. (Your seamboat la) Thanks for taking your time to read my review/rant,...
Read moreThe herbal soup was delicious and light and the Tom Yum soup base was fragrant with lemongrass and Kafir lime leaves but on the salty side. A wide selection of cooking ingredients including sea food, tofu, egg noodles, eggs, shaved meats, lettuce green s and watercress and mushrooms. All dunk in the boiling charcoal-fired hotpot, making the soup and mixture very delicious and balanced. The place was packed but opened to the fresh air especially on the outside tables. So didn't feel crowded but festive. Service was very efficient, the involved process ran very safely and efficiently. A minor distraction was the ubiquitous Cameron house flies and a few boisterous guests. It was wonderful to see quite a few Indian families discovering and enjoying this rather unique tasty, and fun experience....
Read moreBefore we arrive Cameron Highlands, both my daughters mentioned that we must dine here. So yesterday we had dishes and today we had steamboat. Unfortunately one of my daughter is down with gastritis so she can't follow us to dine here tonight. Tonight only 3 of us - me, my husband and my elder daughter. I asked the owner for their business cards and will distribute them to my friends. This restaurant is our regular restaurant. Please feel free to visit this restaurant each time you visit Cameron Highlands. Very warm welcoming and comfortable to dine in too. The staff and owner will definitely make you feel so at home although you are far away from home. My thumbs up 👍👍👍 for this restaurant. Coming here again tomorrow night🥰. Same restaurant but so much food...
