Ratha Curry house
I've never been to the original Ratha Curry house. But it is from the success and fame of the main restaurant in Raub, that 2 other outlets were spawned, first in Goh Tong Jaya, and then much later in Damansara Uptown.
Introduced by a friend many years back, usually as a stop over on the way to Genting Highlands, or on the way down, I loved the food at the Goh Tong Jaya branch of Ratha Curry House the first time I had it.
The stuff we usually order are the roti canai, which is crispy on the outside, fluffy on the inside, and really fragrant, the way good roti canai should be. Partner this with the chicken curry gravy, the combination is superb.
We also have the fried chicken which is one of their signature items. Very tasty. Other items we've tried are obviously the chicken curry itself. Somehow, the way they mix the spices and cook the curry makes it very fragrant, and just simply tasty.
Well, what's an Indian restaurant without a nice cuppa teh tarik. Their teh tarik is one of the Best I've tasted. I usually have 2 cups, because after a nice meal, it's nice to sit back and relax and enjoy the cool mountain air, as Goh Tong Jaya is located in the mountains. It may not be as cool as Genting Highlands itself, but on a cloudy day, it's nice enough.
Only spoilers are the occasional Big buffalos of vehicles like the damned Alphard or Vellfire owners, who park just right at the entrance. Brainless inconsiderate twits. Park a bit further back for goodness sake. Make use whatever tiny bits of grey matter that you fellas obviously haven't been blessed in abundance with...
Back to Ratha, another of it's signature items is it's curry fish head. This is obvious from the photo of the curry fish head emblazoned at the restaurant entrance.
Some years back, when I first had the curry fish head, it cost $29 for two persons. I declared then, that this was one of the best curry fish head I'd tasted. I loved it. Then, the price went up, first to $39, then $49, and now $66++.
I stopped going when it rose to $49. Not that we can't afford it, but when they start charging tourist prices, we don't have to patronize. I believe restaurant owners should remember where they came from, and customers who supported them all these years.
To conclude, I'd still say they serve some pretty good roti canai and teh tarik. Come for these, you...
Read moreI've always known about this branch but never get to eat here until recently. I used to eat at the damansara uptown branch and it has always been delicious and I know how it tastes like by hard. So of course I would want to compare the two when eating here.
So we ordered nasi lemak, the ayam goreng, rojak, Kari kepala ikan, roti canai for sure, squid goreng as well.
Verdict? The Kari kepala ikan tastes the same, thank God haha. Nothing less taste about it. It was cooked nicely with good thick Kari. The fried chicken was crispy and juicy, their famous roti canai garing was in fact garing. And I was surprised with the nasi lemak. It was tasty as well with nice spicy sambal. Price wise, it can be more pricey because location in Genting, but since the food are tasty, we don't mind. If eat for 7 people or so, just get ready 200-300.
Overall, it was a very good brunch here. Although at first it was difficult to get tables and seats, staffs were busy here and there. But eventually we got the seats and managed to order and the food came just nice. Parking wise is challenging sometimes. It all depends what time you come. If you come by 11am onwards, then should be okay. If too early, it might be quite crowded. Very good place to eat lunch and likely will repeat if come to...
Read moreRatha Raub restaurant is the only Indian food option in the area, which unfortunately limits the choices for those seeking Indian cuisine. While the restaurant may be convenient in terms of location, my dining experience left much to be desired.
One of the first things I noticed upon entering the restaurant was the unhygienic atmosphere. Cleanliness is an important aspect of any dining establishment, and it was disappointing to find this lacking at Ratha Raub. The overall ambiance did not contribute to a pleasant dining experience.
Moving on to the food, I found it to be average at best. While it is commendable that the restaurant offers Indian cuisine, the quality and taste of the dishes were not particularly impressive. The flavors were lacking depth, and the overall presentation was underwhelming. It is safe to say that the food at Ratha Raub was just "so-so."
In conclusion, Ratha Raub restaurant may be the only option for Indian food in the area, but it falls short in terms of both atmosphere and food quality. If you are in search of a truly satisfying Indian dining experience, it may be worth considering other options in nearby areas.
Please note that this review is based on my personal experience and preferences, and others may have a...
