Upon our arrival in Butterworth during the afternoon, my wife and I were eager to experience some authentic nasi kandar. After a bit of searching, we discovered Nasi Kandar Jamal Mohamed, drawn in by its impressive online ratings.
Arriving around 2:30pm, the restaurant was relatively quiet, perhaps because the locals had already savored their lunch earlier in the day. We decided to order a half portion of nasi kandar with an array of dishes - chicken curry, daging masak hitam (beef cooked in black sauce and spices), and curry lamb shank.
The verdict on the food was a mixed bag. The chicken curry was passable, without leaving a lasting impression. However, the daging masak hitam fell short due to the tough texture of the beef. We even had to ask the staff to debone and cut into smaller pieces for us. Adding to the disappointment, all the dishes were served cold, with the exception of the rice.
Considering the cost, we were left feeling that the prices were on the higher side for the overall dining experience. On a positive note, the restaurant's location was easy to find, and there was an abundance of parking space available.

Read moreVery unfriendly and rude service! The waiter forgot our order and made us wait for a long time! The Tosai was served cold, and to make matters worse, when it was time to pay, the cashier forgot to include a plate of nasi kandar in the bill and blamed us for not paying! Hello, it was your own mistake, why are you scolding us? I only took two small pieces of fish curry, about the size of a finger, and a simple egg with onions, yet you charged me RM16? The fish wasn’t fresh, and I kept quiet, but your service is unacceptable! We work in customer service too, and your standards are extremely low! If I were less patient, I would say your service is horrible. Never coming back to this nasi...
