Here’s your review with the “unaliving” part included while keeping it clear and impactful:
I’m not here to be a complainer, but my experience at this so-called classy Western restaurant was beyond disappointing. It completely ruined my family’s mood—especially on my birthday. I didn’t even feel like celebrating; in fact, I just felt like unaliving on the spot so that this place would shut down and no one else would have to go through what I did.
Food Quality: • We ordered two ribeye steaks (medium rare). One was fine, but the other came out blue (practically raw). For the price we paid, this was unacceptable. • Ordered one lamb shoulder—it was overcooked and dry. At this price point, I could get better quality elsewhere, and honestly, I feel like I should teach them how to cook it properly.
Service Issues:
• Their staff is completely untrained. Before we ordered, they told us we would get 10% off our bill if we followed their social media. We did exactly that, but when it was time to pay, they suddenly claimed, “The promo is not valid during CNY.” This was incredibly frustrating—they were misleading and unprofessional, giving customers two different pieces of information. How does that make any sense?
• We had an elderly family member who simply requested plain water cause they can’t have any sweet drinks or alcohol, obviously! And they told us they don’t serve water. Not even H2O.
• The serving skills were poor as well. When they brought me the mushroom soup, it was already spilled out of the bowl, making the presentation so unappealing that I didn’t even feel like taking a photo for social media.
Final Thoughts:
I seriously question the kitchen management and overall service quality. From the food to the service, everything needs serious improvement.
❌ I DO NOT recommend this place to anyone looking for good-quality food. Don’t waste your money here—they may look good on social media, but the reality is far from it.
Suggestion: Either shut down or completely overhaul your food quality and service.
Thank you, Meating team, for highlighting the four “special birthday gifts,” which turned out to be lollipops. What left me speechless was how inappropriate this was for an elderly person’s birthday, also don’t forget someone with diabetes. However, I’ll give credit for the small wrapping—it’s a nice touch, but honestly, it’s more...
Read moreAbsolutely thrilled to share our wonderful experience at The Meating Ipoh a place that has truly raised the bar for dining in Ipoh. From the moment we walked in, the ambiance felt warm and welcoming, setting the tone for what would be a memorable culinary experience. The staff were attentive, friendly, and seemed genuinely passionate about delivering excellent service, which really elevated our dining experience.
We started with the Mushroom Soup, and it was genuinely one of the best we’ve ever had. The consistency was perfect, creamy yet not overwhelming, with a depth of flavor that could only come from fresh, high-quality ingredients. It was comforting and hearty, capturing that classic taste in a way that’s rare to find.
When it came to the main courses, we were equally blown away. The Fish and Chips were phenomenal and, in my opinion, hands down the best in Ipoh. The fish was tender, moist, and cooked to perfection, with a crispy, golden coating that didn’t feel overly greasy. It’s clear the kitchen has mastered the delicate balance between crunch and tenderness. The accompanying chips were equally impressive, perfectly seasoned and crisp on the outside while fluffy on the inside. Every bite felt like pure joy, especially with the homemade tartar sauce adding a delightful tang.
The Spaghetti Carbonara was a beautiful, authentic touch creamy, rich, and so well-balanced. Unlike some overly heavy versions, this one felt authentic, light, and flavorful, showcasing the chef’s skill in bringing out traditional Italian flavors without compromising on authenticity. The pasta was perfectly al dente, and the sauce clung beautifully to each strand, bringing together all the flavors in every forkful.
Overall, our experience at The Meating Ipoh was nothing short of amazing. Each dish seemed crafted with care and attention to detail, and it’s clear that this place takes great pride in serving food that’s both delicious and comforting. It’s rare to find a restaurant that nails both food and service with such perfection, but The Meating Ipoh has done it. We left with happy hearts and full stomachs, already looking forward to...
Read moreLook, I want nice places to do well.
Nestled in a housing area in Ipoh Garden, Meating is very recognisable owing to their extravagant entrance decor, and floor-to-roof window panels. It was nicknamed the "house of glass" in its previous iteration, Royale Thor. Parking is a bit scattershot on the grass outside, but at least it's free.
Once you enter, more surprises await. The ambience is modern rustic, with big swaths of black, grey and brown enlivened by green foliage and at the moment, bright red Chinese New Year decor. It looks more like the lobby of a boutique hotel to be honest.
Service is prompt and polite. I arrived at 1pm and was given the new brunch menu (available from 9am-3pm), but thankfully the more interesting dinner menu is available all day. Prices are a bit on the high side, but their food has tons of creativity not seen in other places. You can top up RM38 to your main course for a full meal. Soup, bread, drink and dessert. Again, kinda expensive, but as you can see in the photos, they're high quality, for example a full slice cake rather than some pitiful fruit jelly hehe.
From what I tried today, the mushroom soup was excellent. Thick and creamy with a beautiful colour and a medley of umami flavours. The entree, the aged duck breast was richly packed with flavour, smokey, savoury and robust without being too gamey, and paired extremely well with the bright peach puree. There's flavour for miles, with the only downside being the duck wasn't tender enough. Dessert and drinks were wonderful, I think I got my money's worth.
Meating has heart, and lots of it. From their social media posts, to the outrageously intricate decor at the entrance and inside, and the extra effort in their menus, they make dining-in an experience for the senses, not just for food and satiety. It's worth a try especially if you're...
