First Time Was The WORST Time Ever
It was late noon when we tried to search for Mee Tarik Restaurant in Ipoh to celebrate Chinese New Year with my mother-in-law. I should have reviewed the existing reviews on very RUDE waitress/cashier by other customers before I visit this restaurant. Let me summarize the WORST EVER experience here:
Cons:
Food False advertisement: A large poster of food was advertised on the wall inside the restaurant. However, when we tried to ask for the order, the waitress mentioned that it is not available for order. This is very MISLEADING to the customers. Taste: Despite large portion of food serve, the taste of the food is unpalatable. Description as below. Spicy: I ordered Braised Mee Tarik with Beef for my son, who has stomachache during the visit. The menu in the photo looks like it is not spicy since no visible chilli or red gravy. However, when the order arrived, it has been served with chilli oil. Total waste. Salty: My mother-in-law ordered same Braised Mee Tarik. She is a good cook and complained that her ordered food is very salty and not healthy for older person, i.e. too much food enhancer like A**moto.
Service One of the worst service, this criteria review bring the rating for this restaurant to the bottom. My mother-in-law tried to justify to the waitress on her order when she compared the photo in the menu with the actual food presentation. The waitress suddenly replied with RAISED VOICE HIGHER to my mother-in-law. I just took a picture on beautiful calligraphy in the restaurant, but been SCOLDED by the RUDE waitress/cashier, saying that it is not permissible. Can you imagine that? Please teach your staffs waitress/cashier about manners, before serving customers.
Pros: The only thing that I appreciate is the free refillable drinks.
To other Mee Tarik lovers & potential customers; Please do not come to this restaurant if you do not like to be treated HARSHLY AND RUDE manner by the waitress/cashier.
Sorry, this is my first time visit, but also the LAST...
Read moreI dined at this restaurant in the late afternoon around 4 pm, and even at that hour, there were still some patrons around. They’re known for their Dongbei-style noodle soup and also serve rice with various dishes. It’s a pity they no longer offer skewers.
As for the food, I ordered their famous Dongbei beef noodle soup and a plate of stir-fried cumin beef. The flavors were impressively authentic, reminiscent of what I’ve had in China. The noodles were perfectly chewy, and the clear broth had a rich, strong beef flavor. The cumin beef was well-cooked, capturing the flavor of skewers, but with the meat cut into smaller pieces, which gave it a different bite texture. For drinks, it’s self-serve and free-flow, though they’re all sugary; offering plain water would be a nice touch.
The owner appears to be from China, and while the servers were kind, they could be more attentive.
The restroom setup is odd, with no handwashing basin. The restaurant is clean, but the environment is stuffy, with poor ventilation—especially noticeable given the open-kitchen setup. A closed kitchen might work better if ventilation isn’t improved. This issue may also explain why they’ve stopped serving skewers. Be cautious of mosquitoes, too; long pants are a good idea if you don’t want to be their next meal.
Overall, the food is great, but the environment needs improvement. I’d likely only visit again if I’m craving authentic Chinese noodles and willing to overlook...
