Yesterday I had a hard time in deciding what to cook for dinner for my family consisting of me, my sister n my niece. When I discovered that I ran out of meat, chicken , pork n fish; then only it dawned on me that I have nothing to cook with. So in the end I decided to buy chicken rice with roasted chicken n barbecued pork n roasted pork as well. So I drove to this Ipoh Chicken Rice shop in Jalan Gasing. I have often eaten n bought chicken rice from their Damansara Jaya branch. But it has been several years since I last ate at this shop. This is because this place is often jammed up with traffic especially during lunch n dinner hours cos it’s dismissal time for the morning n afternoon session Catholic secondary school. Yesterday it was smooth driving there cos it was still the 2nd day of Hari Raya- hence it’s school n public holidays as well. The shop has taken up 2 shop lots . It was brightly lit up n the floor was clean n the whole place was already air- conditioned. I browsed through the menu n found the chicken rice n the roasted chicken n steamed chicken as well. There were also the bare quad pork n roasted pork too. They have a large variety of stir fry dishes . No wonder so many families n customers including some Indians were having their meals there yesterday. The Chinese boss has an altar there placed next to an aquarium of gold fishes. There were several young workers who were experts in chopping up the chicken n meat. There was a Grab corner for the Grab riders . Mostly all the waiters n waitresses were young ones. I ordered 3 packets of chicken rice with roasted chicken thigh, barbecued pork n roasted pork. They were quick n efficient. I paid for my order n took my food home. When I reached home, the food was still warm. We were so hungry that we gobbled every grain of rice . The worst thing was I forgot to take a photo of our food. The food was good. I only could snap shot...

Honestly, when I read positive reviews of this restaurant, I couldn’t understand how this is possible…
I don’t like being too harsh in my reviews, but I didn’t find either one good thing there:
THE RESTAURANT Even calling this “restaurant”, to me, it’s an overstatement… it’s more like a hash house, or a canteen, moreover bleak and dirty. The “toilets” furthermore, were disgusting…
THE SERVICE We had to struggle to draw waiter’s attention, and solicited them many times in order to get what we ordered; beverages came halfway through the lunch, and one course didn’t arrive at all! We had to order more courses than what we wanted (see below why), but they didn’t even clear the table from the rejected ones. There isn’t any table setting: you have to arrange by yourself (shoddy) dishes and cutlery, and napkins are of flimsy paper.
THE FOOD We ordered: Fried Roasted Pork (not bad) Ipoh Bean Sprouts (just normal sprouts) Pork Balls (simply disgusting smell and taste) “Signature” Noodles (overcooked, stuck and bad smelling) “Famous” Ipoh Chicken with rice (wondering why it became famous… it was dry and watery at the same time, and totally flavorless )
But the cherry on top was what happened some hours later: I had to bring my father to the hospital, “thanks” to the contracted gastroenteritis!!!
PRICE PER VALUE There is no price that I would pay for such an...
Read moreHad not been here for a long while. Came for dinner tonight with my daughter at around 8:50pm. Pro: The food did not disappoint. The white chicken, pork ball & Ipoh bean sprout, side condiments of grounded chilli paste and ginger all still tasted good). Food was served quickly. Total bill came to $50.05. Cashier collected $50.00 (5 sen discount). Con: The waiter asked which bird part we wanted when ordering but after agreeing on the 2 parts, he returned to say both were finished and suggested we take other parts lthough I could clearly see two whole birds still hanging! First disappointment. Faced a risky situation to exit the eatery. The eatery has 2 main doors. Could not exit at either as the entire floor outside was wet and covered with layers of detergent foam. The staff was cleaning/brushing the floor. They kept telling me and some other elderly guests who were also leaving that we could walk over it even after we said it was a risk to do so. I had to tell them to wash off the soap foam and scrap off the water from the floor at one of the doors near to another neighbouring eatery so that we can exit and walk to the car park from there. They eventually did this after my repeated requests. A big big disappointment. I hope the management will take a serious view of this matter to ensure the safety of customers & public use...
