This is a well-known chicken rice restaurant in Petaling Jaya, and it's on Jalan Gasing. This restaurant has been serving chicken rice for decades, albeit the flavour may not be as good as it once was. It's open daily from 9 A.M. to 9.00 P.M., and it's right next door to another well-known chicken rice restaurant called '1977 New Ipoh Chicken Rice'.
First and foremost, do not anticipate this chicken rice restaurant, called 'Satellite Restaurant', to be as fancy as other chicken rice restaurants. The restaurant is decorated in the same classic and unique style as when it originally opened. The tables, seats, marble floor, front door, displays, music playing, and other items are all vintage designs that are still in use today. When I brought my mother-in-law here, it gave her an oldies sensation, as she remarked she felt like she was dining in a restaurant in the 1970s or 1980s.
What is the most well-known thing about this place? It's their Hainan Chicken Rice, available steamed or roasted. The portions are generous and the prices are reasonable: RM 8.00 for steamed chicken rice and RM 9.00 for roasted chicken rice. The chicken is naturally flavorful and appetising, with a soft, subtle texture that is silky smooth and springy. So the chicken is tender and juicy, and you can't help but admire the soft texture of the chicken, which is always cooked to perfection and never chewy. The rice is generously portioned and provided with a nice Hainanese Chili Sauce that isn't too spicy. Also, as addition to chicken rice, you can add roast pork, meatballs, and bean sprouts with your chicken rice.
Note that the business is run by two owners, one in the morning and the other at night. They sell similar food, but I was told that they are unrelated, so don't compare the pricing and quality of the morning and evening meals. Customers warned me that coming here and eating before 2.30 P.M. would result in a different price (ridiculous price) and a different flavour quality. So come after 2.30 P.M. to enjoy reasonable priced chicken rice in a large portion. It's entirely up to you!
The service for preparing the order and serving it is quick; the majority of the staff are foreigners who are all well-trained, service-oriented, and accommodating, and they deserve a thumbs up for their quick service. You won't have to worry about communication because the foreign staff speak 3 languages: English, Malay, and Chinese. Even if it's busy, your orders will be served in less than 10 minutes, as I experienced when I visited during both normal and peak hours. You'll be served in 1 minute if you ask for extra rice, sauce, or soup. Because the boss (the stall's owner) is constantly present, any complaints may be directed to him. The service is easy and straightforward, with a simple menu from which to pick.
There are only two drawbacks to eating chicken rice here: first, this restaurant does not accept credit or debit cards for payment; however, they do accept ewallet payments like as Grabpay or BoostPay. Another issue is parking, which is difficult to come by due to a lack of parking lots and the fact that many businesses are located nearby, making it difficult to get a parking spot.
This is without a doubt one of the greatest Chicken Rice in Petaling Jaya, and it maintains the original & true style of serving Hainanese Chicken Rice by omitting the extraneous components. Anyone visiting this restaurant should keep in mind that they are paying for the flavour and quality of the food, not the restaurant's atmosphere. Also, if you don't want to pay a high price for something you don't like, come after 2.30 P.M. As you can see from some reviews, customers who claim to have been charged excessively high prices for chicken rice must have arrived before 2.30 P.M. Simply said, if value your wallet, come after the...
Read moreWent to Satellite to fulfill my cravings cse it used to be my all time fav spot but turns out today was a HUGE disappointment.
Idk if the vendors changed during the day time or what but the food was bad. Chilli was just diluted and tasteless, the soup meh, and the siew yok omg might as well I roast it myself lehhh 😣😫 it was so cold, dry and tasteless. I really don’t know how long has this been going on cse I haven’t been here in a while.
Hope the night vendor isn’t the same guy or else the whole place has definitely lost its touch.
Then when it came to payment, I was so shocked to find out that two meals of siew yoke rice with 1 herbal tea and barli panas is rm30?! And he was so rude when I asked him a breakdown. All he said was rm15 per meal la hmmm.
I remember eating at this place with the same order before and it was not rm30.
Yknow what, I rather go next door to ipoh chicken rice and spend that rm30 one meal, at least it’s inclusive with taugeh 😳
But the thing here is, it’s not just the price, if it was good and the guy wasn’t so up to my face, blatantly rude, I probably wouldn’t have complained much.
uGh from my fav spot to a place I might never step foot into again 😔
It’s sad how your fav spot can drop the quality...
Read moreDo not confuse the original chicken rice stall with the second-shift operator who takes over at 14:00/ 2pm!!!
I have been patronising this stall for over 25 years. Price has risen drastically but the quality has dropped. The soup and taugeh is tasteless, rice and chilli bland, chicken and “ginger mix” too salty. However, I still go there for my occasional fix because of familiarity.
Having said that, today marks my last time at the stall.
We were hastened by the original stall to settle the bill at 13:50. The older gentleman took the money and immediately proceeded to exit the premise.
Around 14:20, we approached the second-shift operator (also selling chicken rice and who is obviously capitalising on the original Satellite stall’s database of clients) for a takeaway box without knowing he was independent of the original. This youngish man in a white round neck t-shirt was extremely rude and belligerent. He raised his voice and shooed us away. In fact, he was shouting and scolding his staff from the get-go at 2pm when he took over the stall.
This is the end of...
