This is my 2nd time there. We were there the 1st time to try out their iberico ribs and we weren't impressed compared to a lesser known place at He Lai Ton at PJ centre. This time we were there to celebrate our daughter's good day with some guests. 1st thing that struck us upon arriving was the lack of parking spaces. Ended up, we had to parked our car some 150m away. Since we had booked a table for 10, we were quickly shown our seats upon entrance. There after we proceed to order our food of the evening. We ordered a Beijing duck, a kampong chicken, a yam & green veggi and another dish of nuts with lotus roots. The dishes came promptly, 1st being the duck It was sliced rather grudgingly by a newbie server with non of the finese required. Next it was folded up into tiny rolls which was totally unexpected. Would had preferred it as a DIY session, instead! Taste wise it was below expectation as this isn't our 1st, found the restaurant at H L Ton severed a much more classier duck. Next came the kampong chicken with classic HK styled ginger sauce. This dish I must admit was by far the best I have eatten in recent months. Sadly the veggi in yam was not cooked with roasted meat which would had lifted the dish to another level. The same must be said of the veggi with nuts as well. After finishing our food tour, we had the best moment for her to blow up her candle. Brought myself to the restaurant was my own Tibetan tea mix. It went thru many infusions before calling it the evening. The entrance was impressive but my missy remarked that food wise it wasn't Cantonese but closer to it's EAST, FU KIAN . Only 1 chicken dish scored heavily with us! Service wise was implacable to say the least. Grudgingly, the duck was a miss to us. It wasn't big on tasted, not marinated well as it tasted rather bland of what a Beijing duck should tasted like! Safe to say we had better one else where. Lastly when we left, there wasn't any buggy to take us back to our car as when we arrived initially but then it was after 10 by the time we finished our dinner and those buggy must had called it the night then. To say that we'll come back again,...

Warning to all. Don't ever go. Waste of money and time. I waste RM1600 here today for dinner.

Episodes of horror

Booked karaoke room for dinner. When we arrived say we did not booked karaoke room. Maybe you need to install recorded phone to avoid accusation. Anyway frontline staff said nothing she can do as no more karaoke room. We complained to her supervisor there and magically karaoke room reappears and we can now have a karaoke room instead.

also I have no idea why no more karaoke room available as all other rooms were empty. Maybe just 10% full. Utter nonsense.

Ordered the RM1600 dinner set. Half way through the course, captain came and told us the steam farm chicken not available and ask us to change to roasted chicken with almond flakes instead. Captain said this is famous and recommends it as other customers find it very good. No other choice is given so we obliged. Anyway after more than an hour and 3 times of chasing the chicken, it came. To our horror, the chicken is rubbish. Driest chicken I ever tasted.

also conned by the restaurant. Found out that the steam farm chicken costed RM120 but the replacement roast chicken with almond flakes cost only RM80.

Finally can't wait to end our horrible dinner experience as it came to the last dish being the dessert. Waiting game continues. More than an hour after the previous dish, the dessert arrived. Guess is it? Red bean dessert.

well if you need more than half an hour to make a plain red bean dessert, maybe culinary is not your forte, maybe you should do other business for a change as it's definitely not...

This place is a total waste of time and money.

Bad. Bad. Bad. Without exaggeration, from the service to the food quality, this place won't fail to shock you miserably. The food served is lousy, despite the fact that they're sold at premium prices.

Be warned.

To start with, despite assuring us thrice during telephone bookings that we'll get a room with Karaoke facilities (which we specifically wanted), we were told that our room had none of it, when we arrived at CM. Apparently, they mistakenly thought that we've subsequently cancelled our request. Puzzled and baffled!!

We opted for a Rm2088++ package. Despite its price, we were disappointed by the following dishes.

  1. The first disappointing CM Royal Three Combo dish comprised of the headless prawns on sticks, reused and recycled prawn heads stuffed with meat paste, and a weird vegetable. What a way to start.

  2. Shark fin, fish maw and shark bone soup which tasted bland.

  3. Steamed grouper fish that was disappointingly small in size.

  4. Grilled Iberico Ribs which was the only acceptable dish.

  5. Braised Abalone with Broccoli that was mediocre. Nothing spectacular.

  6. Finally Braised Assorted Seafood Rice and this was the lousiest dish of them all. We really didn't expect such a bland and plain bowl of rice, in such a package. Even fried rice at coffee shops taste so much better.

What was supposed to be a pleasant and exciting evening to look forward to as we had guests, turned out to be horrible, a disappointment and an embarrassment for all.

Overall experience...

This high end Chinese restaurant is located at one end of Jalan 51a/223 PJ. You enter via a narrow road by passing industrial factories, colleges, office buildings etc. If you drive a nice car or if it rains then you let valet park your car in the limited compound area. Otherwise look for a parking elsewhere or park at the open parking area next door. Not a major issue in the evening. The place is a posh luxury restaurant no doubt once inside. It’s a big hall with high ceilings & without columns and many private rooms with karaoke facilities. Service is attentive & prompt generally. I shall not go into too much details on the food. Most are good, tasty & adequate portion. Other than that, I find the vegetables on the salty side. The Iberico pork ribs were dry and not moist enough. Expect Chinese fine dining prices similar to Grand Imperial or Oriental Group. I have appended a detailed billing for those interested to find out the prices. Overall I feel the place is very good for corporate dining with the numerous cosy VIP rooms - since the place is priced for corporates and you get drop off at the entrance. For family & friends gathering it may not be so pocket friendly for the budget conscious and take note that when it rains you have to run out to collect your car to pick up your friends & family, unless you valet parked …..
