Dae Jang Gum Korean Restaurant — Restaurant in Petaling Jaya

I WAS a big fan of this korean restaurant that I will visit every time i travel to KL. Unfortunately, after their recent renovation in April 2019, they changed their menu as well. Now, there are limited side dishes (now limited to 4. Previously was up to 8) AND you can't refill. YES, they charge you RM 5 for refilling 4 side dishes with very little amount. They stinge on the most important (in my opinion) dish which is the kimchi. Literally less than 5 pieces of cabbage. Even the complimentary drink was changed from roasted rice tea to plain water. BBQ meat portion is also reduced. Even the fresh veg that you wrap the meat with cant be refilled. However, dishes like kimchi jiggae that is served in a hot pot remained in terms of portion. I understand that they are changing their direction to individual sets but this concept is not very well thought of for groups of 2 or more. All in all, i was utterly disappointed in their cost cutting strategies. Food quality remain good, however, I guess I will have to find my next favourite korean restaurant. Came for dinner multiple times on a weekday. Decent Korean fare run by a Korean owner. Tried their seafood jjamppong, regular and dol sot bibimbap, sundubu-jjigae and also beef japchae. Reasonable price for what you get. The banchan (side dishes) you get are refillable. Their lunch set is value for money but haven’t had the chance to come for lunch. Price per person depends on how much you order so RM20-40 is for 1 pax. Usually you’ll be served a complimentary sikhye (Korean sweet rice drink) towards the end of your meal.

What can be improved is the service and attentiveness of the foreign staff. They hardly understand English when you speak with them. Probably Bahasa...

Too pricey compare with the portion, kimchi too salty, side dishes not nice, the vegetables is full with water, the sauce so little and must order then only serve, service not so good since i asked can you give few dishes of kimchi then he said only 1 and will be refilled when I finished, in fact the side dishes we only can eat kimchi coz the rest no taste and not match with the grilled beef and pork, each pork portion is 30 rm/ plate considered a bit pricey but beef portion is superb small but price is 69/plate, not worth money, we order 1 round and asked to pay the bill, cannot believe they’re voted 4.2, sorry but first time also...
