Fatty Crab has been popular neighbourhood restaurant for those who love crabs for as long as I remember. Not only among Chinese but during my visit there recently, it's 1 Malaysia where our Malay and Indian comrades congregate to feast on the crustaceans.
For me, I am not really a huge fan of crabs because I loathe the idea of peeling off the shells just for the meat. However once in a while I'd give in to the family's constant demand for the dish.
A corner shoplot with seatings both on the ground and first floor, it was jam-packed with hungry souls when I went there on Friday evening.
◾2 Kati or 1.2kg of crab with only 2 styles available - Signature Sweet Sour Spicy or Steamed. While I think the best way to enjoy the sweetness of crab flesh is steamed, the rests wanted the former. No regret! As the name suggests, the gravy had the 3 tastes that well-balanced and appetising. Instead of mantao where most restaurants sell, they use roti bakar instead - you know, the kind of bread used for roti kaya & butter. ◾Fried Rice RM24 for 2 pax portion was quickly polished by everyone. ◾Satay - both chicken and beef satay were well marinated and grilled. And while both were not those traditional styles (purists take note), the meat was chunky & the accompanying peanut sauce was good. ◾Fried chicken wings were good too but overshadowed by the satay.
Menu is very simple - only crab, fish and prawn (apart from fried rice) are the only protein to...

This iconic restaurant is famous for its lip-smacking crabs drenched in rich, flavorful sauces that will have you licking your fingers clean. Haaa, actually this restaurant dah jadi tempat port makan for family and friends.
Fah namanya crab, of course, the signature chili crab. The perfectly cooked, succulent crabs are bathed in a slightly spicy, tangy sauce that strikes the right balance between sweetness and heat. Pair it with their egg fried rice soak up every last drop of the sauce—trust me, you won't want to waste it!
For those wanting variety, the chicken wings are another crowd-pleaser, crispy on the outside, but the price to pricey.
While the food is top-notch, do note that the restaurant can get quite crowded, and seating can feel a bit cramped. However, the lively atmosphere adds to the charm, making it a fun place to enjoy a casual, no-frills seafood feast.
Prices are reasonable considering the quality and portions, though some might find it on the slightly higher side. Overall, Fatty Crab offers a fantastic, messy, and satisfying dining experience that’s perfect for both seafood aficionados and those seeking a taste of authentic, flavorful crab dishes.

Read moreHad dinner at Fatty Crab with my family of three, and it turned out to be one of the most memorable meals of our trip. We ordered 1.5 kati of crab, fried rice, toast, Chinese tea, a sugarcane drink, and a portion of fried chicken wings from a separate vendor with a stall right next to the dining area. Just note: you’ll need to pay cash right away for the wings.
The crab was absolutely delicious — rich, flavorful, messy in the best way. There was one piece that was a bit mushy, but the incredible sauce made up for everything. We used the toast to soak up every last drop — don’t skip it! The fried rice was also excellent, the sugarcane juice was fresh and light, and the tea helped round out the whole meal.
A small highlight: due to a language misunderstanding, I accidentally ordered the wrong item. A woman — who seemed to be the owner — kindly helped cancel it with zero fuss or frustration, which I really appreciated. That kind of service deserves recognition.
Overall, bold flavors, generous portions, and a bustling local vibe. Definitely worth visiting if you’re in KL and love...
