Another Sarawak option in DJ
Recently more than more Sarawak food opens for business in Klang Valley. In DJ area alone, Happy Fellow opened its door near Atria Shopping Gallery.. not far from the popular Lin Li Xiang nearby.
Operated by a young and friendly crews, the whole cafe was bright and airy when we went there early morning. My aim - to see if the food was as good.
◾Sarawak Laksa - regular bowl at RM14.90 will net you a rather huge bowl of noodle that comes with prawn, shredded chicken, omelette strip, taugeh and coriander. While the elderly said that the curry broth was good, I personally think that Lin Li Xiang has upper edge overall. ◾Kolok Mee - we tried 2 different versions.. original & red (using char siew oil). The aromatic pork oil used gave the noodle the fragrant in each & every bite. Minced meat, crispy pork lard and generic char siew completed the bowls. Delicious stuff! ◾Dumpling soup - something to share and I loved how thin the skins were with fairly generous ingredients.
Why they called themselves Happy Fellow I do not know, but perhaps it refers to the feeling of being happy after eating the...
Read moreWhen they first opened, the owners were there to make sure the quality of the food was consistent. I visited 2-3 times in the early days and found that the food, namely the Kolo Mee, was quite nice.
Recently, in March 2024, I visited again, and the quality has dropped a lot. Now, I see the foreign staff fully running this place with no sign of the owners. The staff is taking loudly and laughing, like it's their own shop or house.
Kolo Mee taste no longer like before. Like eating instant noodle kolo mee. It looks like kolo mee, but the taste is not there at all. If you've never eaten real kolo mee around Sarawak, you'll never know the true taste.
The only positive thing here is that they offer the Junior sizes of Kolo Mee & Sarawak Laksa, which is the normal portion over there in Sarawak. The price is very affordable for this. Drinks are also expensive, but i fully understand that Damansara is a high rental area.
Owners need to be there to control the quality, not to just play boss only, that's why in Sarawak, the owners are the ones cooking, and that's what makes the dish tasty,...
Read moreThe food was quite nice. This was the second shop I went for Kolok mee. We tasted almost all kind of noodles from Kolok mee original to dark sauce to Sarawak laksa sauce to Sarawak laksa noodle in this shop. So far the best would be Kolok mee with laksa sauce. Then, my mother "lost" her purse. I called the shop after 10 pm (closed). The lady, who answered the call was very helpful. She was willing to check for me even after the shop was closed. I called second time and requested if she could check the CCTV for me. At first, she said she would check for me on Wednesday when they reopen the shop. Tuesday would be off. But later she was willing to check for me tonight. It's fortunate that later we managed to find the purse in our house. Bruh...I immediately replied to her that we found it and much appreciated for her help and apologized for the inconvenience caused. Nice food and...
