Aunty sam is one of the best restaurants for Chinese dishes in the area. The word I'd use to describe them is: delicate. Everything is made with a delicate touch and they balance flavors and textures well. There's always something that makes you go .. mm that extra thing they put in gives it a nice crunch, or that other thing gives it a natural sweetness. Delicate. Well thought out. It's cny season right now, and I even notice they've prepared little gift packs for children as they leave. Would it increase the dining frequency of the customer? Maybe, maybe not. Did they have to do it? Absolutely not. But it's a nice classy touch. And you'll spot small things like this throughout your dining experience. That theyve taken the extra step. They paid attention to that detail. Or went the extra mile.
The one thing I'd like to point out here is that this is a small restaurant. I don't have any connection to the owners, no one told me to write this. But I took a glance at their bad reviews earlier and what's clear to me is that there may be some confusion about why the wait times, or that people can't order from the single set meals if they made a reservation. This annoys the hell outta me and I'd like to vent. Hello - this is a small restaurant. And it's PACKED.
Firstly, understand that if you want them to hold an entire 8 spots, block off 30% of space in the restaurant, they would do that for the type of customer that they prioritize - the ones that would order their best dishes (not just price, but the type of dish that best showcases their flair, right?!). If you wanted to order from the single set in the first place, you're more than welcome to do so, just go wait in line.
Secondly... It's clearly stated that it's their policy. I've seen the restaurants responses to the reviews here... They copy an entire Whatsapp notification that confirms the reservation and clearly outlines the policy. They're already going the extra mile (just like how they approach everything else) by confirming your reservation, outlining what are their terms... So you felt mistreated because you forgot to do something (read) that they went the extra mile to spell out for you? What value does your opinion provide to other consumers? That this restaurant has a really reprehensible policy? You...

Reserved a table for a CNY reunion with our friends, but it turned out to be a disaster. Number of pax and pets we were bringing were communicated prior to us booking our seats. However, due to poor management, we were cramped at a small table which could barely accommodate all of us. Some of us didn’t even have proper seats and had to cramp onto a bench they had at the side which was highly uncomfortable.
What’s even more outrageous was the way one of their female employees’ (or the lady boss) attitude towards one of our friends when she arrived. Instead of asking one of us to help our friend while she was busy bringing her pets into the restaurant to where we were seated to be put into the stroller, she shouted at my friend in a very disrespectful and abrasive tone. Our friend was having trouble pushing her stroller in as the ramp up to the restaurant was really steep and the walkway to our table was really narrow. Saying that the staff/lady boss was rude would be an understatement.
This restaurant “claims” to be pet-friendly, but I wouldn’t even call it pet-tolerant. As we were chucked all the way to the end, one of our friends was even asked to zip up her stroller as ‘some people might be afraid of dogs’. If that’s the case, why should we, paying customers be punished for the restaurant’s poor and inefficient planning?
We were even asked to move our strollers to the front of the food and drinks serving counter, where our pets were in it per their pet policy. Do they not have any common sense of how dangerous it is with all the hot food and drinks being brought around that area?!
All of these could have been avoided if they just rejected our request when we were trying to reserve a space there. We didn’t just show up out of nowhere with all of our pets and demanded to be seated there. We truly understand that not all F&B services are pet friendly and we would have booked another restaurant instead.
It was certainly ah extremely unpleasant experience for us! Definitely wouldn’t recommend to anyone at all. Would have given negative stars if Google has...
Read moreIf I can give 0 star I would have. Claimed to be a pet friendly place however it can barely pass as a pet tolerant restaurant! Lady Owner is rude; raising her voice, making tsk sound and showing her black face when I was attempting to bring my dogs to our reserved table so that I can place them into the stroller as per their pet policy. Is this how you treat your customers by raising your voice at them and arguing with them?!
During reservation, we've clearly informed the number of pax, number for dogs and number of strollers that we'll be bringing. Then you should know the space that we'll need and if you can accommodate our reservation or otherwise. If you can't then tell us as is, we would have gone to another restaurant. But chucking us right at the back, in front of the toilet, with 3 of our friends having to sit on the straight cement bench with 2 of them having trouble even reaching their own plate on the round table is ridiculous!
You parked our big group at a high foot traffic area and then you asked us to move our dogs to the front of your drinks and food serving counter, whats the point of them joining us for celebratory dinner?!? Not to mention how dangerous that is with all the hot water and food being moved about there!! They are not boxes that you can move about as you like. And asking one of us to zip up the stroller because your patrons are afraid of dogs then why did YOU place us there to begin with??!? You didn't think??
If you're pet friendly, you will know that your door entrance is small with a high step, making it impossible to maneuver with a stroller and 4 dogs inside. And the small ramp that is steep and narrow! Our dogs, eventhough the group is big did not give any trouble at all in your premise. They were quiet, they were calmly just sitting there with us at the table. They were definitely more polite than the...
