Well hidden Cafe
Of all the "SS" in Petaling Jaya, SS4 is the one I understand the least. In fact I find it quite confusing when there's alphabet A, B, C and D at the back while the rest doesn't have. But this is an area that house quite a number of my favourite F&B establishments - B&Best, Kee Kee Chicken Rice, doudoubake. I can add this cafe as one of them.
I didn't even know that there's this row of shophouses surrounded by residential houses near the famous chicken rice in this area.
Inside is where the cafe comes to life - the tables and chairs are not uniformed; you could find retro stuffs such as old paino, barber chair, old music player, even bed frame turned tatami-style area, wooden cabinets, table made of sewing machine, even a boat turned into display cabinets. Even the counter has the used & repurposed railway sleepers.
Take a seat anywhere you want, and order half boiled eggs and toast ala traditional Chinese style, or peanut butter toasts.. or perhaps a slice of cake to go with the iced latte. For munching, perhaps a basket of fried nuggets?
With their selections of cakes and oriental style items in the menu, coupled with good caffeine... I...
Read moreAbsolutely disappointed with the "house rule" imposted by the cafe. A group of friends looking for a place for good coffee with a nice ambience after a heavy meal but was smack with every customer must order "1 drink rule". One cannot even just have a desert/food but "must" order at least 1 drink. The coffee served was comparably well just like other good cafes in town hence it was unnecessary to make our first visit uncomfortable. We were 4 out 5 people ordering 15 bucks worth of coffee and supporting your cafe during this post pandemic and if not for medical reason would have ordered caffeinated or sweet drinks. Sad to say the vibes given by most of the waiters was so awful and unfriendly that my friends could only gulp down their coffee quickly and leave the cafe. Unfortunately a let down experience for a beautifully decorated cafe. Definitely not a welcoming place and not child friendly. Poor - sales strategy that forces customer to drink instead of having something else of...
Read moreEnforcing a "min one drink per customer" rule is a desperate move to increase your sales. What's mindboggling is that there's no flexibility in this policy that even your staffs have to enforce it so strictly. One can't even enjoy your cakes and dessert to replace the "one drink" policy that has been imposed on a group of us but insisted that we need to get a drink. We are met with unsettling eyes over our backs from your staffs who are displeased that one of us didn't order a drink. A visit that has to be quickly shortened, and a cup of coffee that has not been enjoyable. Isn't that what a cafe needs? The appreciation of coffee, company and atmosphere? None of these has been satisfied at all because of this "min one drink per customer" policy. This is the cafe that can be otherwise be...
