After Yan Wo, this is the place that I like
The elderly is good indication whether the food is worthy of eating or not. After all, they had probably eat salt more than we eat rice.. right? This post summarised my both (2 times) visits to Hao Yue Lou, a popular dai chow (big fry) restaurant in Aman Suria. If you're not familiar with this area, just Waze their name and you'll be brought to this corner shop restaurant with the sign "Restoran A. Suria"
Most of the time, I'd come as early as 6.00-6.30pm to avoid the dinner crowd, and the chance to wait for table is lower especially on weekends where families and friends gather to dine at this peng leng jeng place.
◾Steamed tilapia with minced ginger - fish was free from muddy taste, and smothered generously with the fragrant minced ginger. ◾BBQ pork ribs or 一支骨 - almost a common dish in each and every dai chow restaurant in this area. Caramelised char siew-like sweetish sauce was such a delight to sink the teeth in. ◾Porks 2-way - one sweet & one spicy style pork fillet. ◾Fried chicken wings - nothing much to say except for the nicely fried wings resulting in moist and tender meat. ◾deep fried baby squids with dried chilly - satisfyingly crunchy and spiciness from the dried chilly. ◾claypot curry fish head - quite spicy but the flavour was on point. The evidence was that the daughter who normally don't eat spicy stuff, scooped a few spoon to mix with the rice ◾deep fried mantis prawns with oatmeals - the meat was a bit overdone, and quite tough. Love the flavour and crunchy oat though. ◾beancurd in pumpkin sauce - a dish that I would normally order for the kids. If it's good, they'll in like it. They polished everything in the end. ◾stir fried potato leaves with garlic - love the sweetness and crunchiness of the vegetable. ◾boiled soups - kindly check with them on the type of soup that day.
At the end of the meal, they actually commented that most dishes were quite good. All the dishes are priced affordably and our meal cost about RM150 for 8 pax. Hao Yue Lou is now one of our favourite restaurant to dine apart...
Read moreHao Yue Lou Seafood started promisingly. The claypot tofu and pork ribs were undeniably delicious, showcasing the kitchen's culinary skill. Unfortunately, the experience took a sharp turn downhill due to a series of unfortunate events and, frankly, dishonest service.
We ordered a plate of stir-fried vegetables. What followed was a comedy of errors. First, the dish was mistakenly served to another table. While these things happen, it was what came next that left a sour taste in our mouths. The correct vegetable dish was then served to the other table, only to be rejected by those patrons. After a significant wait of nearly 20 minutes, we were finally offered a plate of vegetables. The explanation given was that the kitchen had mistakenly prepared this dish, implying it was a fresh, extra plate.
However, one bite revealed the truth. The vegetables were ice cold, clearly the same rejected dish that had been sitting on another table. It was insulting. They clearly thought we were too naive to realize what had happened. The blatant dishonesty was incredibly frustrating. It's one thing to make a mistake, but quite another to try and cover it up with such a transparent lie. While the initial dishes were tasty, this experience completely overshadowed any positives. The poor handling of a simple mistake, coupled with the dishonest attempt to pass off a cold, rejected dish as fresh,...

We arrived at the restaurant with our family around 5:50 PM and took a queue number. While waiting outside, the staff told us we could place our order first to save time once seated. That gave us hope things would be efficient — but it was completely misleading.
They kept saying we were “almost next,” yet we waited over 1.5 hours just to be seated. After finally getting a table, we asked about the food and were told it was “cooking.” Still, nothing came.
When we followed up again, the staff simply said: “Then you can cancel.” This clearly meant our food hadn’t even started cooking — which proves they were lying to us the whole time. We were never “almost next.” They just didn’t want to be honest.
We had young children with us, and were left waiting endlessly with no real updates. We also tried to book earlier by phone but were told walk-ins were fine — again, misleading.
We came because of all the hype on XiaoHongShu, but left with nothing but frustration and a careless “you can cancel” as the final response.
Terrible communication, dishonest service. If I could give zero stars, I would. Definitely not worth the wait...
