The pasta bar is set in a unit in the infinity tower. Check their Instagram for the directions to get to their space, and if you're going on a weekend, you can just park outside the tower as there's ample public space parking. I made a reservation through whatsapp, pre-ordered the items that I wanted which I highly recommend. Do check on what their special items are in during the time. After seeing their info on instagram, I had been waiting for a good opportunity to try the food.
The starters, which is the Cheesy Pita and the Tuscan Pork Jowl was a nice start. Pita had a mix of cheese, truffle oil and balsamic vinegar, and opened up my appetite for the rest of the pasta dishes. I enjoyed the Tuscan Pork Jowl, it's a small meat and Yao Char Kuih bite, which was presented well in my opinion.
Then we had the variety of pasta's which came out. Understandable for a 1 man show in the kitchen, the dishes came out 1 by 1, but that also gave us time to enjoy it before the next one came out. The waiter took time to explain each pasta, and I think it's a good touch for a pasta bar as it helps the customer know the taste to expect when we savor it.
We tried 5 pasta dishes, and overall the taste of each was excellent and unique, and while pasta in itself is a usual dish to have in various cafes, I particularly liked the fact that it's not made extravagantly complicated, it's just good ingredients and a main flavor to go with it. The Chili Crab, the Linguine Vongole and the Carbonara was excellent. While I felt the chili crab could afford a stronger chili taste, which is a personal preference, I still enjoyed it. Linguine Vongole had a nice mix of cooking wine and clam. The winner to me was the Carbonara it it's originality, eggs, cheese and Guanciale. This isn't something you get in most place and I'm glad they have this because it's such a different experience compared to the carbonara pasta that most people would have elsewhere.
Even though it didn't seem much for 9 pax, because the ingredients were good, I definitely felt like I had a nutritious and fulfilling meal. Highly recommended if you're looking to try good pasta dishes that are humble enough to speak for itself, which you'll know when...
Read moreMy recent visit to San Lou Pasta Bar left much to be desired. Firstly, locating the place was a challenge in itself. Upon arrival, we were dismayed to find very limited seating. Despite being first-time patrons, we were not informed beforehand about the necessity of making reservations, leaving us with the option of sitting outside on a makeshift setup with foldable tables and plastic chairs. This arrangement made us feel excluded and detracted from the overall dining ambiance. Additionally, the food portions were small, and the pasta itself was disappointingly hard, not meeting our expectations at all. We tried the chili crab and tuscan pork jowl pastas, but both dishes fell short in terms of flavor. The seasonings seemed poorly integrated, resulting in a bland taste that failed to impress any of us. While taste preferences can vary, the unanimous opinion among our group of four was that the flavor profile of the dishes left much to be desired. On a positive note, I must commend the service staff for their attentiveness. Our waitress was friendly and helpful, patiently explaining the menu options and checking in on us regularly despite our less-than-ideal seating arrangement outside. Overall, our experience at Sanlou Pasta Bar was unfortunately overshadowed by its shortcomings, from the challenging seating situation to the lackluster food offerings. It's disheartening to see such high expectations go unmet due to logistical issues like limited seating. In the future, I would strongly suggest that the restaurant refrain from accepting customers if they cannot accommodate them comfortably indoors. Alternatively, providing a more appealing outdoor dining experience with proper furniture and ambiance could be a viable solution to avoid leaving patrons...
Read moreA Hidden Gem: Our Delightful Dinner at San Lou Pasta Bar
My husband Andrew and I just came back from a delightful dining experience at San Lou Pasta Bar. This charming little spot in Infinity Tower absolutely blew us away!
San Lou Pasta Bar is a small, intimate dining room run by Stephen Swee, a seasoned chef with over a decade of experience in renowned Singaporean hotels.
His extensive culinary background is evident, but Italian cuisine is his true passion.
Stephen explained that he loves putting his own creative spin on classic pasta dishes, and it definitely shows!
I had the incredible Kambing Stew Rigatoni. The tender lamb shoulder, braised in a medley of Chinese spices, was incredibly flavorful, and the Parmesan crisps added a delightful touch.
Andrew, a fellow pasta enthusiast, opted for the Tuscan Pork Jowl. His bucatini was cooked perfectly al dente, and the tender pork jowl with grated Grana Padano was simply divine.
Andrew and Stephen had such an engaging conversation about different pastas and sauces. It was wonderful to see them connect over their shared love of cooking.
Overall, San Lou Pasta Bar was a fantastic experience. The food was top-notch, and Stephen's warm hospitality made the night even better.
We'll definitely be back to try more of his amazing pasta creations.
If you're in the Kelana Jaya area, give San Lou Pasta Bar a try. I guarantee you'll be pleasantly surprised.
The food is easily 5-star quality without the hefty price tag.
One word of caution though – the space is small and cozy, which adds to its charm, but also means there are only a few tables.
Due to its popularity, reservations are highly recommended, especially...
