This brand set the standards for modern kopitiams when it first opened in Ikano now IPC. People literally have to queue just about any time of the week. Today I revisited this joint after many years and to find out if they are still good. Honestly I can tell you, it's nearly the same today vs back then. First up, Uncle Lim's Laksa. This version is the creamy Laksa and it brought back good old memories. They also have Assam Laksa and Curry Laksa. This one is unique because it taste like the usual Assam Laksa but not so sour and creamy rich. Full of fish chunks and packed with umaminess. Nice! Next up, the Nasi Lemak with Chicken Rendang, it's made to remind us the beauty of being a Malaysian. The rice is fragrant, cooked perfectly. Sambal is moderately spicy and mildly sweet, there's a piece of sotong under it. I'm not a fan of sotong but this one is an exception. It's perfectly cooked, not chewy, not fishy and you can cut it easily with a spoon. Awesome! Finally is the Wholemeal Toast, the kaya tasted the same exactly when they first opened. For me, this is one of the best for Pandan Kaya. Fragrant, creamy and caramelised sweetness paired with oozing melted butter. Doesn't get any better. Drinks is pretty normal, tell them to cut down on the sweetness. A bit over for me. Overall, this outlet is still good and true to how it was when they first...

The broth is tangy, savoury filled with fish and tamarind punch associated with the Penang Assam Laksa, minus the pungent shrimp paste. The creaminess comes from a small dose of laksa to add a touch of spiciness and thickness but without overwhelming the tamarind within the broth.
Beneath the sliced onion, mint leaves, fresh sliced pineapples condiments that complements the soup so well, I discovered generous 'hidden' chunks of soft mackarel tuna.
Instead of yellow egg noodles or thick rice noodles used in Curry Laksa or Assam Laksa, it is served with soft thin tangy spaghetti which soaked up the full flavour of the creamy broth.
BTW, those old classic tunes especially Zhou Xuan's 花樣的年華 during my visit did momentarily bring me back to Shanghai in 1950s briefly...
