I have been passing by this restaurant many times but on why I never dine here until recently, it really beats me 🤷🏻 everytime I passed by, normally on weekends, the restaurant was packed with hungry diners.
This restaurant is an old establishment in SS2 area with their own legion of loyal customers. I had to call few days in advance to reserve a table for the family to avoid disappointment. Sure enough, they were full house when we arrived around 7pm++
◾signature village chicken - using free range chicken, the moist and juicy chicken was drenched in an aromatic combination of superior soy sauce and oil. Just the sauce is enough to make the young ones scrambled for rice. I love how the huge chicken has this natural sweetness to its meat. ◾Village fried fish - essentially deboned ma yau fish with its flesh reconstructed into fish paste and then deep fried. One of their signature dish and we loved it. ◾Pai kuat Wong - something that both adult and children love. ◾Curry fish head - another reason to add more rice to the meal. ◾Stir fried green dragon vegetable with bean sprouts for that crunchy texture. ◾Cantonese style noodle - gotta love crispy noodle doused with the wok hei filled eggy sauce.
With more than 20 years in business, they show no sign of slowing down. In fact, it is almost impossible to get table without reservation...
Read moreVillage Chicken, Ss2 A neighbourhood favourite that’s been around for years, serving good food you can always count on. It’s the kind of place you come back to when you’re craving familiar Chinese dishes that never get old.
The setup is simple and it is often packed, but that is part of its charm. Portions are generous, prices are fair, and everything just feels comforting. In short, good food, no fuss, and exactly the kind of meal that makes you want to come back.
What we had :
Village Chicken *Tender, succulent and cooked just right. A must-order that keeps everyone coming back.
Curry Fish Head *Thick aromatic curry with tender fish and vegetables that soak up all the sauce. Perfect with rice.
Nam Yue Pork Ribs *Well-marinated with that distinct fermented red bean curd flavour and a nice bite to the meat.
Sweet and Sour Pork *Crispy pork coated in a balanced sweet and tangy sauce just right.
Yam Basket *Crispy yam ring with a saucy stir-fry inside. Crunchy outside and soft and tasty inside.
Claypot Tofu *Silky tofu in a savoury sauce served bubbling hot. Simple and comforting.
Everything here hits the right notes. Simple, satisfying and exactly what a good dai chow meal should be.

Read moreThis restaurant has been a family favourite for three generations! What stands out most is their consistency over the years- the food is always delicious, the service is quick and attentive, and the ambiance remains charmingly old-school: simple and unfussy. Personally I love the inconspicuousness of the restaurant that only a true foodie can appreciate- approach it like how Anthony Bourdain would in his travels. A place of nostalgia especially for my family.
It’s a small establishment with indoor seating and a couple of outdoor tables as backup when it gets busy. Their food is reliably tasty (classic and satisfying)- with of course kampong chicken being the star of the menu. The stuffed kampong fish, yam basket with chicken and spinach in soup is also a family favourite.
I highly recommend booking in advance to avoid long waits, especially during peak hours. Parking can be a bit tight during the day, but it’s usually easier in the evenings.
I truly love this place and hope it continues to thrive for many more...
