(1 Sep 2018). The lunch crowd on the Saturday we went wasn’t as big as that during the night. We had a bit of difficulty looking for the restaurant as its name had been changed to Restoran Yuk Min (formerly Restoran Nyuk Ming). We ordered: Braised pork trotter Sweet sour pork Kow Yoke with taro (wrongly called yam) Jiong jing tilapia Belachan kangkong Deep fried taufu Fu yong dan (fried eggs with onion)
Except for the fu yong dan and belachan kangkong, the food was delightful. The belachan kangkong lacked the spiciness and oomph. The fu yong dan wasn’t fried well enough without sufficient “wok hei” and the onion flavour wasn’t there to complement it.
There could be a change of management as the new name is Yuk Ming. The Chinese characters were different too.
(March 2018) We had dinner on the Tuesday night and the restaurant was pretty crowded with us having to wait in line for a table. The restaurant had a simple set-up with posters of some of the food available hung on the walls. We didn’t have to wait too long for the food to arrive despite the crowd. Good: -Have aircond, proper, spacious table for dining. -Great number of cooking style. Same item but various cooking method so menu is inflated to 9-10 pages -Great variety. Noodles, rice, soups, Chinese dishes, they offer a lot. -No excessive oil like so many other Dai chow stalls. -Tissues provided. You know, the super thin, 1 ply cut into mini squares to save cost to the max. -Fried rice and typical noodles start from Rm10 onwards.
Bad: -Expensive for non Ala carte item. Don't feel I got my money's worth. Signature Fried Bean Curd is Rm16 for about 7 pieces. -As many reviewed here. Taste is just ordinary, nothing outstanding. Kinda like you know the tastes you're already familiar with.
In ss2, hawker stalls Fried rice already start at rm9 so why not give that Rm1 extra for air cond, big table and tissues? Worth it. Will come...
Read moreI called and asked to tar pau (packed) for two types of noodles ie hokkien meehoon mee and sang har mee (prawn noodles)... have ordered these before and they were good ... but this order was absolutely a big failure. The gravy for the sang har mee was so starchy and the hokkien meehoon mee was so soft and tasteless like as if the cook has forgotten to put salt...was looking forward to enjoy the noodles but sorry to say, our dinner was spoilt. Have frequently ate at this restaurant and find food quite good and price reasonable. They have raised the price today..sang har mee RM23 iso Rm20 and hokkien mee RM11 iso of RmM10...don't mind paying but with this standard of cooking, will have to think twice before patronising again..
Benefit of the doubt, different...
