You walk past, thinking it’s just another spot selling Hakka noodles—until you actually sit down and taste what they’re doing here. The place is clean and air-conditioned, feeling more like a Muji café than a noodle shop, with simple wooden furniture, polite young staff, and the kind of minimalist vibe that lulls you into thinking you're about to be overcharged.
But then a bowl of handmade noodles lands in front of you, and it costs about the same as a flat white in KL. The noodles are springy and slightly al dente, whether you go for the classic or spinach version. They’re tossed in a light but flavourful pork lard and minced meat sauce that doesn’t try to overdo it. Add a spoonful of the complimentary chilli oil and suddenly you're eating an entirely different dish.
The pork wontons are fat and juicy, thin-skinned and swimming in either a light broth or a spicy mala sauce. The fuchuk rolls and fish cakes are serviceable so don’t expect artisanal craft. Others are forgettable, like the fish skin soup, but for under RM15 a head, nitpicking feels petty.
Service is lightning-fast. You scan a QR code, blink, and your food’s on the table. Come late and you might find half the menu sold out, with no apologies. Some diners grumble about portion sizes or inconsistent seasoning. Occasionally, the noodles arrive clumped, or the chilli oil tastes more like sugar than spice. It’s not perfect. But most of the time, it gets the job done.
Holiao is a quiet kind of good—a working-class bowl with a white-collar polish. The people who come here do so for the comfort of something...
Read moreFirst visit. Order spinach noodle+ green veges (the only one)+ fried wanton.
The good: Taste not bad. Main dish cost just under Rm 10. Very cozy environment, clean and simple with relax music. Noodle presentation is a bit fancy, arranged nicely. Lol. Portion for everything is acceptable. Tissue, chili oil, and pepper available for self service. You can customize the condiments when ordering (no lard, onions, etc). I like that a lot.
The bad: QR code ordering. I'll never get used to these kinda nonsense. The staff is a bit non responsive. No matter the young one or old uncle. You can't be sure if they heard you or not when placing orders. No respond to anything even when I said thank you. Is this how you train your staff to treat customers? On top of the above, there's 10% service charge. What service besides bringing the food to my table? I can help myself like a fast food restaurant thank you. Very limited green vege option!! Malaysian diets are so imbalanced.
Everything may seem cheap but the prices can quickly pile up if you order a lot.
So yeah it's a pretty mid place,...
