Shaorou Cafe 烧肉王茶室 — Restaurant in Sarawak

The best fusion dish that we didn’t know we needed, the creamy pasta is definitely the main highlight and star dish of this place. Everything on the plate was delicious and well-balanced with different textures and tastes. The pork itself is flavourful. The shao rou has a very crispy skin and the char shao is tender, juicy and the right amount of sweetness. The black sauce is spicy and has a slight tangy flavour to it, balancing well with the fats from the pork. The pasta is also well seasoned although the pasta noodles were cut short (you cannot swirl it). The pickled cucumbers and carrots are refreshing and give a nice crunch.

The teh peng was very sweet yet the bandung was less sweet. Drinks seem inconsistent in balancing out a decent sweetness level. It is not crowded during dinner time on a weekday. Food was amazing. Just wanna point out the service. The cafe is too Chinese/Mandarin coded. I made online appointment and they speak in Mandarin on the spot with me. I replied with errrr, still continue speaking Mandarin. Then we got there, the waitress n waiter took a long time explaining about the pork oil something. They even call their friend one by one to translate to us in English🥲.Wish they can improve their language service either Malay or English. But, idk, maybe their MAIN target was Chinese only when I thought the cafe was awesome that should be enjoyed...

Came at a busy afternoon, got a table quite quickly and ordered prior to getting the table. Service was honestly great and the roast pork was really one of the best around Kuching with the variety of sauces. Char siew was so so but my only complaint was their meat was put out in the kitchen (open window to dining area), with the AC full blast in the dining area, so the char siew came cold already and the roast pork was slightly warm only.
