THE COFFEE BEAN & TEA LEAF® MARKS TWO DECADES OF LEGACY IN MALAYSIA
Many Malaysians don’t remember the way things were before their first Original Ice Blended® coffee beverage, and many more just can’t imagine life without it! However, few know that it was first invented by The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf® (CB&TL) and introduced to Malaysian coffee lovers in 1997, when the first three stores opened in key locations across Kuala Lumpur. Since then, CB&TL has seen its creation spread far and wide across the country. Today, there are 84 stores nationwide that range from standalone stores and shopping mall stores, hospitals, and its recently opened, first-ever drive-through store in Setia Tropika, Johor Bahru.
Two decades ago, there were only mocha and vanilla flavour bases that were used to create five different Ice Blended® beverages - Mocha, Vanilla, The Ultimate, Malaysian Cinnamon and Black Forest. However, today fans get to enjoy hazelnut, double chocolate and cappuccino too, with 13 toppings to customise their beverage exactly how they like it, resulting in a menu that boasts a whopping 22 Ice Blended® flavours!
At CB&TL, coffee connoisseurs can have their pick of Arabica beans that range from light and subtle to dark and distinctive that come from the finest sources in the world, while tea lovers get to enjoy fragrant and delicate brews from plantations in Sri Lanka, Kenya, Japan,...
Read moreCBTL is one of our preferred coffee joints and we usually sell them out in malls etc. This particular one in KLIA has table service where they actually take your order at the table. We decide to queue and place ur order directly at the counter to expedite matters. While placing the order we requested for the coffee and bagels arto be packed for takeaway and were informed by the staff that if we packed for takeaway then we would not be allowed to sit and consume it in the outlet. We were surprised and so explained to the staff that our intention was to have a quick bite before flight take off and should we not be able to finish our meal in time we could quickly & easily pack it with us to the gate. The staff then allowed us to eat in. I really do not understand the thinking of such a take away policy moreso when everyone is paying the same price and we're located in an airport where everyone is on the way to another destination. On a separate note, the patron next to us placed his order with the waitress using table service and he never received his order and neither did the staff remember taking his order (eventhough we saw her taking the order). He then had to call the whole thing off as he way about to be late...
Read moreAfter arriving at Kuala Lumpur International Airport, we went through a long 2-hour immigration line and were absolutely starving. As soon as we exited into the Main Terminal Building (Arrivals), the first place we saw was The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf—and we didn’t think twice!
Though we had originally planned to head to Terminal 2 and relax in a lounge, our hunger took over. The open seating area was convenient, and the morning staff were warm and welcoming. Coffee Bean has multiple outlets across Kuala Lumpur and even within KLIA, and we’ve always found their food and service consistent and reliable.
This became our first meal spot in Malaysia—a memorable start to our 2025 trip. It felt even more special because in Bangladesh, there's only one Coffee Bean outlet (in Gulshan), and we’ve shared many memories there too.
Sometimes we wonder—if Bangladesh sees stronger economic growth like Malaysia, maybe we’ll see more international coffee chains like this flourish back home. Until then, places like this remain part of our...
