My dad used to frequent here just about every week 10 years ago, and after that we would still come back for Teppanyaki to celebrate special occasions, because it had always been consistent & delicious. The staff are also ever loyal and have been there since decades ago. So there’s definitely a strong attachment & bias to this restaurant.

But we were sorely disappointed this time around when we celebrated my dad’s birthday.

Firstly, we waited close to 35 minutes after placing our order for the Chef to come in with the ingredients. That’s still perfectly fine for us. We ordered miso soup for my mom while waiting.

We were told that they had run out of salmon because they had a buffet brunch service earlier. That’s also fine.

We had the Scallops, Prawns, Oysters, Chicken, Mixed Vegetables and Garlic Fried rice.

The scallops (RM79++) were fresh, prawns (RM198++) as well. But unfortunately some pieces of prawn were still grey & raw. I highlighted this to the chef & he replied it’s alright, the fresh water prawns still taste good when it’s raw. (??)

The chicken (RM43++) was underseasoned & barely any hint that it was cooked on a teppan. It is quite sad that even the simplest of meats could taste this bland.

The mixed vegetables (RM33++)were overdone (perhaps in compensation to prior dishes), the garlic used were already burnt & bitter. When highlighted to the Chef he just said it’s the garlic and continued with the rest of the dishes..

Garlic fried rice which we thought could comfort the disappointment, also turned out extremely sub par since the entire batch of pre-fried garlic were absolutely unsuitable for further cooking.

(I should also note that the miso soup we ordered earlier still didn’t arrive)

We ended my dad’s birthday dinner feeling defeated & disappointed that our favourite teppanyaki place had immensely dropped in standards. We didn’t make any fuss out of it because the Chef had another table to cook for and I didn’t want his mood to be ruined.. he also wasn’t very good at communicating & I felt terrible for him. I believe he is a credible Chef but perhaps just not suited for the teppan section.

When I walked to the counter to pay and speak with the staff, they were apologetic but said the executive Chef & restaurant manager were not around that very day. Standing next to me was a frequent diner who also shared the same sentiments about the drop in food standards that night. (He wasn’t even having teppanyaki)

The bill came up to RM530++ for the three of us, but they waived the fried rice.

TL;DR: Teppanyaki is not worth it. You will find much better for half the price.

Perhaps it is worth coming for their weekend buffet brunch. It’s still a decent restaurant to go to for the...

Was not as expected . Am a repeat customer. Sadly, on the overall, the Ala carte menu started off well but the minuses were too overwhelming. For starters, for a 5 star Japanese restaurant, it was too loud. Waiters were to loud and the waiters need to spend a little bit more time understanding their menus. They could not advise on portions , could not understand the concept of a meal being shared , could not even explain what was the dishes in the chefs signature selection which we ordered

there was no presentation of the menu. No introduction of the course. I dined for 3 today. The Tepayanki chicken was very poor. The squid overdone. The rolls were good . The biggest disappointment was the Chefs signature selection. Honestly if the chef was japanese and is reading this , he should commit Hara kiri and if the chef was malaysian, or any other nationality, he or she should resign. It is a disgrace to be called a chef because there was no pride in the service and the layout of the selection. Nothing tasted any good. The whole signature was a blatant abuse of our taste buds and honestly the only thing Japanese was the name of the restaurant - Kogestsu which sadly , the only reflection i got from today was the false refection of quality .

The only saving grace for todays ghastly experience was the amazing company that i shared the meal with. For the person that is looking for the next Japanese meal post MCO , you can give Kogestsu a pass. Disappointing. The booking was made under the name...

I made reservation for last saturday (3 April 2021) for the teppanyaki room, but was told on the day itself that the room was fully booked, and they had booked a private room instead. So i decided to cancel my booking and book the teppanyaki room again for this saturday (10 april 2021). However they messed up my booking again and informed me on the day itself that they booked a private room instead. Again i had to cancel my booking and will not rebook again.

I am very disappointed with the management of kogetsu, i had been to kogetsu many times, ever since the first time my dad brought me there when i was a kid, and now being older i was hoping to treat my dad to this same teppanyaki. However, after this experience i will never go to kogetsu again. Staff was not even apologetic, when i explained to them...

One of the best Japanese restaurants in Klang Valley in terms of decor and atmosphere. The lakeside setting, visible through large picture windows, lends an aura of peace and tranquility to the dining area. The Sunday lunch all-you-can-eat buffet is popular and includes the popular Japanese favourites - sashimi, sushi, teppanyaki, tempura, Donburi, a few noodle dishes, seafood and desserts. Everything ranges between decent to good. Quality and freshness is not an issue here. My recommendations would include the Braised Buri (Yellowtail) with Daikon and the Grilled Unagi. Tempura items have to be ordered and are delivered to the table piping hot and cruncy. Service is attentive and friendly. Kudos to the service team for an excellent job.

Had lunch at Kogetsu last Friday. We enjoyed their set lunch with grilled beef and sushi rolls. The food was fresh, well-prepared, and portioned just right. Especially the tender beef and neatly done sushi. The ambience remains one of its key charms. With serene pond-side window seating that adds a calm, nostalgic touch despite the slightly dated decor. Service was mostly excellent; staff were friendly and attentive. Hemaa standing out for her patience and helpfulness. However, the assistant manager came across as curt, which slightly affected the overall experience. Prices are on the higher side, but reflect the long-standing reputation and quality of this classic Japanese restaurant.
